Abstract:
The difference between a current dye rate and a retrieved nominal dye rate for a new web color is used in a dye rate change response (boosted to speed color change) to change the dye rate/web color. Historical production dye rate data is accumulated and combined with current dye rate data to determine new color targets or nominal dye rates for web colors to be produced. A retrieved nominal dye rate and a current dye rate are combined using a filter factor, α,(0 ≤ α ≤ 1), defining the fraction of the historical dye rate to combine with the remaining fraction of the active dye rate to determine a new nominal dye rate stored for a given product color. The current dye rate is preferably taken near the beginning of a run; however, it can be taken at any point and can be an averaged accumulation of data.
Abstract:
A method and system for on-line measurements of mineral additives in or on a paper web (16) utilizing shaped spectrum x-rays and solid-state PIN detectors. Each of three detectors (20, 22, 24) are covered by a filter (26, 28, 30) used to shape the spectrums of x-rays received by the detectors. The filters are selected to maximize sensibility differences between detectors for the desired detectable mineral additives. A computer (31, 40) processes signals from the detectors and from basis weight and moisture measuring instruments (42) to determine total mineral content, and the individual amounts of mineral additives in or on (e.g. coating) the paper web.
Abstract:
A method replaces a saturable core reactor (SCRs) in a rectifier power transformer disposed in a transformer vault at its field location. The transformer has an oil-filled tank housing the SCRs. The tank has a manhole opening therein. A busbar structure is associated with each SCR. The method drains the oil from the tank. A busbar structure is disconnected from an associated SCR. The disconnected busbar structure is moved away from the transformer. The SCR is removed from the tank through the manhole opening and is lowered. The SCR is then conveyed from the transformer vault. A replacement SCR is moved to be adjacent the manhole opening and is then slid through the manhole opening and into the tank to a certain location. The busbar structure is moved so as to be associated with a replacement SCR and is connected to the replacement SCR.
Abstract:
A system and method for developing, deploying and implementing computer applications for a power system has an open software framework for developing mobile applications. The mobile applications are developed by combining predefined modules having functionality to monitor a power system, change configuration settings within devices installed on the power system and allow utility personnel to quickly respond to events occurring on the power system.
Abstract:
A system and method for delivering targeted information to a user is provided. The user initiates a request for information by capturing or scanning a bar code associated with an object. The bar code is decoded and the decoded information is presented to the user. The decoded information and GPS coordinates of the user's scanning device is used to directly route the user to detailed information about the object that was scanned or the appropriate service department for servicing the object. The detailed information about the object includes but is not limited to product and system specifications, technical manuals and CAD drawings. A history of product scans is stored on the user's device and available for upload to the cloud. A portal is provided for accessing product scans and installed base information stored on the cloud.
Abstract:
An energy storage system for connection to a traction power supply that provides power to an electric vehicle. The energy storage system includes a power controller that controls a DC-DC converter to transfer electrical energy from the traction power supply to electrical energy storage when the train is braking. The power controller also controls the converter to transfer electrical energy from the electrical energy storage to the traction power supply when the train is accelerating. The controller slows the rate of energy transfer when upper and lower voltage boundary limits of the electrical energy storage are approached, respectively.
Abstract:
Systems and other embodiments for causing a service request to be produced are described. A system can comprise an analysis component that evaluates an information set to produce an evaluation result. The information set can include a first piece of information from a first information source and a second piece of information from a second information source. The system can also comprise a determination component that proactively makes a determination on if a service request should be produced, where the determination based, at least in part, on the evaluation result. The system can further comprise a production component that causes the service request to be produced in response to the determination being positive.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for electromagnetic stirring of molten metals at an advanced stage of solidification, as may be used in continuous casting of steel billets and blooms, are disclosed. At least first and second stirrers are provided for generating first and second rotating magnetic fields of a differing frequency about an axis of solidifying molten metal. The stirrers are arranged about the molten metal in sufficiently close proximity to each other so that their respective magnetic fields superpose to produce a modulated magnetic field. The magnetic fields of the respective stirrers may either have common or opposing rotational directions. The modulated stirring produced by the magnetic fields results in oscillating primary and secondary flows and hence turbulence within the melt bulk in the region wherein temperature of the melt on its central axis is below the liquidus level and at least 10% of substantially solidified material is formed. Turbulent flow created by this stirring method disrupts formation of crystalline structures in the melt bulk and mixes solute enriched melt of the central region with the bulk volume which subsequently results in improvements of the solidification structure and overall internal quality of the cast products.
