The invention concerns a method for preparing cores of pellets for animal feed, said cores comprising: a hydrophilic active principle having an active content higher than 60 wt. %; at least one fusible binder; at least one plasticizer; said method including (a) a first step which consists in mixing the ingredients, (b) a second step which consists in extruding the mixture through an extruder, in particular single-screw or double-screw, provided with one or more dies, so as to obtain cores and (c) a third step which consists in spheronizing the cores. Said method is characterized in that it consists in carrying out a preparatory co-grinding of the ingredients prior to extruding the mixture, said co-grinding being carried out at a temperature not more than 50 °C. The invention also concerns a method for preparing pellets of hydrophilic active principle comprising said cores.

A process for the production of methionine which comprises (a) hydrolysing the methionine amide in the presence of a catalyst comprising titanium to produce ammonium methioninate, said catalyst having a porosity of from 5 to 1000 nm, a total pore volume of from 0.2 to 0.55 cm3/g and a surface area of from 30 to 150 m2/g, and (b) a second step of recuperating methionine from the ammonium methioninate salt by removing ammonia. Also claimed is an industrial process for the production of methionine incorporating the aforementioned hydrolysis.

A process for the production of carotenoids crystals from a carotenoid-containing plant oleoresin which process comprises (a) a first step of introducing the oleoresin to an organic solvent, an alcohol and a base under reflux temperature of the organic solvent to form a saponification reaction mixture; (b) maintaining said saponification reaction mixture for a period of time sufficient to complete the saponification reaction, thereby producing a saponified product; (c) allowing the resulting saponifiied product to separate into two phases comprising an organic phase and an aqueous phase; (d) separating said phases and extracting the extracting the aqueous phase; (e) distilling said organic phase to obtain the carotenoid crystals.
