The invention concerns a method and a device for simultaneous regulation of an intake air flow (24) of an internal combustion engine (10) and a secondary air flow (21) in the exhaust system (12) of the internal combustion engine, wherein the secondary air flow is produced by a compressor (20) powered by a turbine (18). The turbine (18) is mounted in a bypass (16), wherein said bypass is disposed parallel to a throttle valve (14) in the intake tract (11) of the internal combustion engine. The amount (21) of secondary air supplied thereby depends on the position of the throttle valve. In order to provide compensation therefor, a regulating valve (32) is provided, which is connected to the secondary air line (22) by means of a connecting line (34). The regulating valve influences the cross section of the bypass (16) so that the cross section of the bypass can be simultaneously widened when the throttle valve (14) is opened, whereby a pressure drop in the turbine caused by the opening of the throttle valve can be compensated for. In another embodiment, a control valve that is controlled by a control unit can also be mounted, wherein mechanical coupling of the throttle organ in the bypass and the throttle valve is also possible. The disclosed method enables simultaneous regulation of intake air flow and secondary air flow with acceptable structural complications thereby representing an economical solution.

The invention relates to an internal combustion engine comprising at least one line system for secondary air. A module body comprises a portion of the lines (25, 30, 35), a portion of the actuating valves (26a, 31, 26b), and check valves (27). The throttle valve (13) and its actuator (36) are additionally integrated in said module. A line section (14) which is part of the intake system (11) is also integrated in the module. The admissions of the lines (35, 30) are easily realized in said line section. The line (30) is intended for recirculating exhaust gas. It is also possible to partially realize the depicted idea with regard to integration. It is also possible to simultaneously utilize the supply line (29) in the exhaust (21) of the internal combustion engine as a bleed line for the exhaust gas. All of these measures are suited for reducing the installation space and the number of components for the internal combustion engine, whereby they yield very economical solutions.

The supercharger is inactive at part engine loads, and since the engine normally operates at part loads for about 95% of its running time, efficiency is correspondingly poor. This drawback is overcome with the arrangement according to the invention, which is mainly characterized in that the screw compressor (10) is provided on the inlet side (20) thereof with a capacity regulating device (22) which is operated by the gas pedal, or accelerator, and which when the engine is only partially loaded is adjusted to a corresponding position in which the compressor (10) operates as an expander (3) of variable throttle effect on the engine inlet side (3) and transmits power to the engine, therewith replacing the conventional gas throttle.
