Described are fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) compositions, methods of manufacture and use. FCC catalyst compositions comprise particles containing a non-zeolitic component and one or more boron oxide components. In embodiments, the FCC catalyst composition contains a zeolite component and optionally a rare earth component and a transition alumina. FCC catalytic compositions may comprise a first particle type containing one or more boron oxide components and a first matrix component mixed with a second particle type containing a second matrix component, and a zeolite. The FCC catalyst compositions can be used to crack hydrocarbon feeds, particularly resid feeds containing high V and Ni, resulting in lower hydrogen and coke yields.

The present invention specifies a method for treating catalytic converter preforms, particularly to increase the mechanical strength thereof, said method comprising the following steps: a) provision of prepared catalytic converter preforms; b) immersion of the catalytic converter preforms together with a peptising agent in a volume of liquid not exceeding the theoretical water absorption of the catalytic converter preform; c) thermal treatment of the immersed catalytic converter preforms at 50°C to 250°C; and d) calcination of the thermally treated catalytic converter preforms at 250°C to 600°C. Furthermore, a catalytic converter preform with enhanced mechanical strength is created which can be produced using the method according to the invention. The present invention further relates to the use of catalytic converter preforms according to the invention for the production of amines and in solid bed reactors or fluidized-bed reactors, and to a chemical synthesis method in the presence of catalytic converter preforms according to the present invention.

Methods for producing lactams from oximes by performing a Beckmann rearrangement using a silicoaluminophosphate catalyst are provided. These catalysts may be used in gas phase or liquid phase reactions to convert oximes into lactams. High conversion of oxime and high selectivity for the desired lactams are produced using the disclosed methods, including high conversion and selectivity for ε-caprolactam produced from cyclohexanone oxime and high conversion and selectivity for ω-laurolactam produced from cyclododecanone oxime.

The present invention in certain embodiments is directed to a catalytic substrate suitable for use in a number of applications, including as a substrate in a catalytic converter. Another aspect of the present invention is a filtering substrate suitable for use in a number of applications, including as a substrate in a particulate filter, such as a diesel particulate filter (DPF), or diesel particulate trap (DPT). The invention also provides an improved substrate for removing and/or eliminating pollutants from the exhaust of combustion engines. The catalytic substrate and filtering substrate provide, in certain embodiments, improvements in removing pollutants from an exhaust gas. The improvements include one or more of the following: faster light-off period, depth filtration of PM, less backpressure, lower probability of clogging, ability to be placed in multiple locations in the exhaust system including the manifold or the head itself, high probability of catalytic reaction, high conversion ratios of NOx, HC, and CO, a faster burnoff of PM, minimization of catalyst material use, and the like.
