A method for determining physical state parameters of a medium involves measuring physical properties of a medium while oscillations are generated in a standard medium element and then the dependence of one of the characteristics of the oscillation process on the parameter to be determined is found, the standard element is put into contact with the medium to be analyzed and oscillations are again generated in the element. The value of the state parameter being determined is established from the change of the oscillation process characteristic in the standard medium element. The generated oscillations are of modulated, ultrasonic or hypersonic nature. The resonance frequency or the quality, the passage speed or absorption factor of the oscillations are used as the characteristics to be measured, the relaxation frequency of the standard medium is found and the state parameters of the analyzed medium are determined, for example, by the relaxation frequency shift. The standard medium used is a liquid medium, a magnetorheologic and or electrorheologic medium. A device implementing said method comprises a hollow casing (21) with an opening (22) in its wall, acoustic oscillation converters (23) provided with electrodes (24, 25) and mounted on the end faces of the casing (21) so as to form together with the latter, a measuring chamber (25), and fastening elements (27). Each acoustic oscillation converter (23) is rigidly secured, along the periphery, between the end face of the casing (2) and the fastening element (27). The surface of each acoustic oscillation converter (23), contacting the analyzed fluid, consists of a continuous electrode (24), and the opposite surface of the converter (23) consists of an electrode (25) coaxial to the measuring chamber (26) and coinciding with its diameter. The casing may contain more than one measuring chamber.

The remote-access device has an advanced capability that the device is able to signal by an advanced capability code. The device or the system may carry advanced capability data that can be used to utilize or enhance the advanced capability. The advanced capability data may be stored at the remote-access device, at the reader or in the system at a computer. The results of the advanced functionality may be logged onto a database or they may be stored back to the remote-access device. The advanced capability code, data and results may be stored onto the remote-access device in protected form, and the access key may be derived from identification information on the remote-access device.
