A method of alleviating edge curling when laminated structures comprising layers of green material having different shrinkage rates are sintered comprises applying to a face (18) of edges (14) the first layer (10) having the higher shrinkage rate green sinterable material, opposite to the second layer (12) having the lower shrinkage rate green sinterable material, an edge strip (16) of a green sinterable material also having a shrinkage rate lower than the first layer, and then firing the laminated structure. The edge strip may be partly or, advantageously, wholly embedded in the first layer. The sinterable materials of the second layer and edge strip may be the same or similar. The invention is particularly applicable to solid oxide fuel cell sub-structures in which the first layer is the anode layer and the second layer is the electrolyte layer.

Also disclosed is a method of harvesting grafts that has improved efficiency and increases the quantity of extracted tissue and minimizes time required by surgeon for implantation.

An element (1) for use as a fire stop for installation in cavities in buildings consists of an elongate generally rectangular cylindrical element (2) formed of a single ply mat of mineral fibre wool having a density of more than 60 kg/m3, with air impermeable fire resistant foil (3, 4) bonded to and substantially covering the surface of two opposite longitudinal faces. The density of the mineral wool core (2) and the bonded foils (3, 4) provide the fire stop (1) with adequate resistance to self-deflection and resilience in the plane of the coils (3, 4). The element (1) is fitted into a cavity with the foils (3, 4) extending across the cavity, preferably with the mineral wool core (2) under compression.

Thermal insulation products are provided which comprise air-laid MMVF material through which particulate additive is distributed substantially homogeneously, and the particulate additive is selected from the group consisting of silicon, aluminium, mica, silica and titania. The additive particles are bonded to the surfaces of the MMV fibres by a binder. The product may be a granulated product but preferably comprises a layer which is an air-laid MMVF batt or batt stratum through which the additive is distributed. Improved thermal insulation ( lambda value) is obtained.
