    摘要: The present invention relates to methods and apparatus for winding a plurality of strands (20) into a multilayered package (54). The preferred method includes: a) supplying a plurality of strands (20); b) aligning each of the strands in generally adjacent and coplanar alignment (16); c) oscillating the strands about a pivot axis while maintaining the strands in alignment (22); d) reciprocating a reciprocating device generally parallel to a central axis of rotation of a rotatable packaging collector (54); and e) winding the strands about an arcuate surface (57) of the collector to form a multilayered package, such that within each layer of strands wound upon the surface of the rotatable packaging collector (54), each of the plurality of strands is adjacent to each other and essentially free of overlap. The preferred apparatus includes a strand supply device (12); an alignment device (18); a strand oscillating device (22) including a strand guide (24) adapted to oscillate about a pivot axis and having a first arm and a second arm spaced apart to receive and align the strands; a winding device including a rotatable packaging collector (54) having an arcuate surface (57) adapted to receive the strands to form a multilayered package; and a reciprocating device, such that within each layer of strands wound upon the surface of the rotatable packaging collector (54), each of the plurality of strands is adjacent to each other and essentially free of overlap.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for reducing catenary during winding of a fiber bundle (12, 112) which includes a plurality of fiber strands into a wound package. The method includes: applying substantially equal tension to each of a plurality of fiber strands; gathering the strands to form a bundle; advancing the bundle at a predetermined speed and tension toward a winding device; measuring the tension of the bundle; adjusting the tension of the bundle by adjusting the speed at which the bundle is advanced, such that (1) the speed of advancement of the bundle is increased when the measured tension of the bundle exceeds a predetermined value and (2) the speed of advancement of the bundle is decreased when the measured tension of the bundle is less than a second predetermined value; and winding the bundle to form a wound package. The apparatus includes a frame (26, 126); a plurality of fiber strands supply packages (20, 120); a plurality of tensioning devices (30, 130) for applying substantially equal tension to each of the fiber strands; a gathering device for gathering the fiber strands into a fiber bundle (12, 112); a feed device for advancing the fiber bundle at a predetermined speed to a winding device; a tension sensing device for determining the tension in the bundle and providing a signal to a feed device controller which adjusts the speed of the feed device in response to the signal from the tension sensing device; and a winding device.

    摘要: The present invention encompasses methods for reducing or inhibiting growth factor in cancer cells and tissues. More particularly immunogenic growth factor-containing compositions are administered to a human or animal with a cancer or tumor. The immunogenic compositions elicit the production of antibodies specific for growth factor which reduce the level or circulating growth factor, thus reducing or eliminating the proliferation of cancer. The present invention encompasses growth factor-containing liposomes and vesicles having portions of growth factor externally presented on their surfaces. The present invention also includes antibodies specific for growth factor. Thus, according to the present invention, growth factor levels are reduced either by active immunization of an individual using immunogenic growth factor-containing compositions or by passive immunization via administering to the individual an antibody or a group of antibodies specific for growth factor.

    摘要: An automotive refinish coating composition having a volatile organic content not exceeding 3.0 pounds per gallon contains a hydroxyl functional polyester and a polyisocyanate curing agent. The hydroxyl functional polyester is prepared from reactants containing: (A) from about 15 percent to about 50 percent of a polyol or mixture of polyols, each having a formula molecular weight from about 50 to about 2,000; (B) from about 15 percent to about 50 percent of a long chain monocarboxylic acid or mixture of such acids, each having from about 6 to 24 carbon atoms; and (C) from about 15 percent to about 30 percent of 1,4-cyclohexane dicarboxylic acid; the percentages based on the total weight of reactants used in preparing the polyester. The refinish coating composition is particularly suitable as a clear topcoat over a pigmented basecoat.

    摘要: It has been discovered that the degree of hormonal activity of candidate ligands correlates better with degree of fit into DNA than with the strength of receptor binding, and that the receptors in the steroid/thyroid hormone/vitamin A and D family alter the physiochemical properties of DNA and in concert with other transcription factors facilitate insertion of the ligand into DNA. As a result, the magnitude of the response is a function of the structure of the ligand as it related to insertion and fit into the DNA and the specificity of the response is a function of the stereochemistry of the receptor through binding to both the ligand and to the DNA. Based on these discoveries, a method is described herein for identifying drugs having increased activity as compared with the natural ligand for receptors such as the estrogenic receptors.
