摘要： The invention is a process for producing alkaline earth metal salicylates for use as lubricant detergents and to compositions prepared by the process. The process comprises two steps. Step 1 is the alkylation of salicylic acid is conducted using C14 or greater linear α-olefins to produce alkyl salicylic acids in commercially acceptable yields. The alkylation conditions produce predominately mono-substituted para alkyl salicylic acids that are oil soluble. Step 2 is the oil soluble acid is subsequently neutralized and overbased by carbonation of lime using CO2 in the presence of a promoter and a surfactant. The reaction mixture after overbasing is filtered and solvents are removed by distillation. Alternatively, alkyl salicylic acid can be reacted with a previously overbased alkaline earth sulfonate, e.g., calcium sulfonate, to produce alkaline earth salicylate salts comprising varying percentages of dispersed alkaline earth carbonate salts. In this method, no filtration of the end product is required, and, thus, it is commercially preferred.

摘要： An oil particularly suited for equipment having copper containing alloy elements, is compounded from about 20 to 99.75% by weight of natural or synthetic oil, and about 0.25 to 30% by weight of an acid forming friction modifier, particularly, a fully esterified compound, such as glycerol trioleate (GTO). The oil evidences a marked improvement in frictional behavior and wear protection, especially regarding the corrosive wear of Cu based alloys. The oil containing glycerol trioleate does not release oleic acid unless and until boundary conditions are present, thereby on one hand effectively lubricating under boundary conditions, while on the other hand minimizing the presence of oleic acid and thereby reducing chemical wear.

摘要： The present invention provides stable alkoxy silane containing compositions and methods for the preparation of a stable silane containing composition comprising: (I) a water insoluble or slightly soluble alkoxy silane; (II) emulsifier; (III) water; and (IV) water dispersible or emulsified polymer containing an alkoxy silane functional group. Also provided are two part systems such that an alkoxy silane emulsion comprising components (I)-(III) are combined and the component (IV) may be added upon use of components (I) to (III). Moreover, additional components (V) such as catalysts and pH buffers may be added. The compositions of the present invention are stable for at least about three to twelve months.
