A method for fluid pressure analytical electronic heat and fire detection, and a corresponding heat detector, used for detecting heat and fire, having no moving components, such as a valve, switch, membrane, diaphragm, or similar actuatable device of moving parts, for effecting activation of a warning or alarm signal indicating a condition of excessive heat or fire. The analytical electronic heat detection mechanism is based on electronic circuitry (38) including at least one fluid pressure transducer (46), logic, and other cooperatively functioning electronic components, for highly accurately and reproducibly, first analyzing a potential condition, and then logically determining an actual condition of excessive heat or fire. The electronic heat detection mechanism is fully functional, by having at least one fluid chamber (10, 12) closed to any external source of fluid pressure. The invention includes an automatic electronic testing procedure for naturally stimulating the heat detection mechanism for effecting operation. The invention can be implemented in a variety of configurations, including, as a spot type or line-type heat detector, closed or open fluid pressure type heat detector, operating in different ways for monitoring temperature, such as fixed temperature and/or rate of temperature rise, and in a variety of applications, including incorporating them into multi-unit systems of automatic excessive heat and fire detection, encompassing a wide range of environmental conditions, in a cost effective manner.

A method of analyzing particles for chemical or biological species. Spectral images of the particles are acquired (24, 46). Targets are identified in the images and are classified (52, 80) according to morphology type (78) and spectrum type (76). A descriptor vector (58, 88) is formed and transformed to a vector of mass concentrations of chemical species of interest, or of number concentrations of biological species of interest, using a relationship determined in a calibration procedure. In the calibration procedure, spectral images of calibration samples of known composition are acquired, and empirical morphology types and spectrum types are inferred from the spectral images. Targets are identified in the spectral images and classified according to morphology type and spectrum type. A calibration descriptor vector (58, 88) and a calibration concentration vector (60, 90) is formed. A collection relationship (94) between the calibration descriptor vectors and the calibration concentration vectors is found, either by multivariate analysis or by training a neural network.

A method for remote scenes classification comprising the steps of (a) preparing a reference template for classification of the remote scenes via (i) classifying a set of reference scenes via a conventional classification technique for obtaining a set of preclassified reference scenes; (ii) using a first spectral imager for measuring a spectral cube of the preclassified reference scenes; (iii) employing a principal component analysis for extracting the spectral cube for decorrelated spectral data characterizing the reference scenes; and (iv) using at least a part of the decorrelated spectral data for the preparation of the reference template for remote scenes classification; (b) using a second spectral imager for measuring a spectral cube of analyzed remote scenes, such that a spectrum of each pixel in the remote scenes is obtained; (c) employing a decorrelation statistical method for extracting decorrelated spectral data characterizing the pixels; and (d) comparing at least a part of the decorrelated spectral data extracted from the pixels of the remote scenes with the reference template.

The substrate has a dielectric constant less than 1.5 and a dissipation factor less than 10-2, most preferably, polymethylacrylimide. A conductive layer is placed on the substrate surface using chemical deposition or by use of appropriate adhesives. The printed circuit may be imprinted by conventional techniques such as etching with appropriate etching materials.
