Chimeric carbohydrates produced by recombinant microorganism carrying exogenous glycosyl transferases act with or without exogenous enzymes required for synthesis or nucleotide synthesis precursors. These recombinant microorganism can be used as a means for competitively inhibiting the binding of toxins or adhesins to receptors of mucosal surfaces, especially gastrointestinal surface. In particular chimeric sugar moieties have been made for lipopolysaccharides, in recombinant microorganism that present multiple copies of the oligosaccharides. The oligosacchide moieties so presented act as receptor mimic for toxins and adhesins. A number have been synthesise and have been shown to confer protection against attack by pathogenic organisms or their products in vitro and an in vivo.

Also disclosed an X-Y imager formed on a gallium arsenide substrate from a plurality of pixels and a processing area wherein each pixel comprises a photoresponsive source (1), a gate formed from a plurality of metal fingers (7) across the source (1), a drain (4) connected to a readout line and a gate resistor (12) connected in series with the fingers (7). The arrangement of fingers (7) across the source (1) in co-operation with the gate resistor (12) produces an enhanced optical gain.

This invention relates to an induction air handling unit of the type that uses a primary air flow to induce flow of secondary air through the air handling unit. It comprises an induction chamber (20) having an air flow entrance (22) and an air flow exit (23) and a nozzle (10) having an outlet (12) located within the induction chamber (20). The nozzle (10) is connected to a primary air flow that causes a secondary air flow to be induced through the induction chamber (20) via the entrance (22) and the exit (23). The nozzle (10) is characterised by the edge (12) forming an outlet that is of a scalloped shape. This has a dramatic effect on producing noise output from the nozzle (10).
