Abstract:
The present invention includes a live attenuated virus and methods of making the same comprising an isolated virus comprising a viral genome that expresses one or more viral antigens; and one or more exogenous species-specific microRNAs inserted into the viral genome and expressed thereby, wherein the species-specific microRNAs are ubiquitously expressed in a viral target species cell but not in a viral propagation cell.
Abstract:
A diagnostic imaging device includes a probe that uses both an ultrasound transducer and frequency-domain diffuse optical imaging (FD-DOI) to assist with locating and diagnosing sub-tissue anomalies. According to one aspect, the diagnostic imaging device relates to a clip-on cap that can be utilized with existing ultrasound transducers. The diagnostic imaging device described herein can be utilized for image-guided needle biopsy to regions where prostate tissues are highly suspicious for high-grade cancer, as well as for image guided interventions, such as cryotherapy, photodynamic therapy, and brachytherapy for early-stage or localized prostate cancer.
Abstract:
Methods and kits are provided for amplifying and detecting misfolded proteins from samples, for example, from patients having Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's Disease, and the like. For example, a method for determining a presence of soluble, misfolded protein in a sample may include contacting the sample with a monomeric, folded protein to form an incubation mixture; conducting an incubation cycle two or more times effective to form an amplified portion of misfolded protein; incubating the incubation mixture effective to cause misfolding and/or aggregation of at least a portion of the monomeric, folded protein; physically disrupting the incubation mixture effective to break up at least a portion of any protein aggregate present; and determining the presence of the soluble, misfolded protein in the sample by detecting at least a portion of the soluble, misfolded protein. The monomeric, folded protein and the soluble, misfolded protein may exclude prion protein (PrP) and isoforms thereof.
Abstract:
In one embodiment, an air foil bearing includes an outer bearing sleeve and multiple inner pads provided within the bearing sleeve, each pad including a top foil and an inner elastic structure that supports the top foil within the bearing sleeve, wherein each pad has an offset ratio that is greater than 0.5.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates platinum(IV) and texaphyrin linked conjugates and compositions comprising a texaphyrin and a platinum(IV) agent. The present disclosure also provides pharmaceutical compositions of the conjugates and compositions. Also, provided herein are methods of using the instant compounds in the treatment of cancer such as a platinum resistant cancer.
Abstract:
The present invention provides that exosomes from human body fluid samples contain double stranded genomic DNA that spans all chromosomes and may be used to determine the mutation status of genes of interest in diseases, such as cancer. Furthermore, the present invention provides the use of exosomes to produce therapeutic proteins and for their use in therapy as well as the detection of cancer cell-derived exosomes to diagnose cancer and monitor therapeutic response.
Abstract:
Certain embodiments are directed to photo-activated compounds for the manipulation of pH in a cell. In certain aspects the photo-activated compound is 2-nitrobenzaldehyde (NBA). Photo-activated compounds can be used as a targeted therapy for a variety of disease states and conditions, such as cancer.
Abstract:
Methods and compositions related to the engineering of a protein with L-cyst(e)ine degrading enzyme activity are described. For example, in certain aspects there may be disclosed a modified cystathionine-γ-lyase comprising one or more amino acid substitutions and capable of degrading L-cyst(e)ine. Furthermore, certain aspects of the invention provide compositions and methods for the treatment of cancer with L-cyst(e)ine using the disclosed proteins or nucleic acids.
Abstract:
Provided is a method of inhibiting heterodimerization of HIF-2α to HIF1β (ARNT) comprising binding certain small molecules to the HIF-2α PAS-B domain cavity but not to HIF1α and inhibiting HIF-2α heterodimerization to HIF1β (ARNT) but not inhibiting HIF1α heterodimerization to HIF1β (ARNT). Those certain small molecules are also referenced synonymously as HIF2-HDI and HIF2α heterodimerization inhibitors and also simply as certain small molecules.
