    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for purifying alkanesulfonic acids, having the following steps: (a) distilling a melt which contains raw alkanesulfonic acid (1) in order to completely or partly separate low-boiling constituents, wherein the low-boiling constituents are drawn at the head of a distillation column (3) or of a single-stage evaporation device, and a material flow (7) containing alkanesulfonic acid, high-boiling constituents, and residual low-boiling constituents is removed at the bottom of the distillation column (3) or of the single-stage evaporation device, (b) supplying the flow (7) containing alkanesulfonic acid, high-boiling constituents, and residual low-boiling constituents as a discharge melt to a melt crystallization process (9), in which crystals of the alkanesulfonic acid, of hydrates of the alkanesulfonic acid, or of a mixture of both are formed in the mother liquor in a suspended manner, (c) carrying out a solid/liquid separation in order to separate the crystals from the mother liquor, and (d) optionally washing the crystals in order to remove mother liquor adhering to the crystals.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a process for reprocessing alkane sulfonic acid, which is used in a chemical process as an agent, catalyst, or solvent, which comprises the following steps: (a) separating a stream containing alkane sulfonic acid from a reaction mixture which accumulates in the chemical process, (b) feeding the stream containing alkane sulfonic acid as output melt to melt crystallisation, wherein crystals of the alkane sulfonic acid, of hydrates of the alkane sulfonic acid or a mixture of the two are formed, suspended in mother liquor, (c), carrying out a solid-liquid separation in order to separate crystals out of the mother liquor, (d) if necessary, washing the crystals in order to remove mother liquor adhering to the crystals, (e) feeding back the crystals separated from the mother liquor and possibly washed into the chemical process.
