摘要: Methods and systems for providing a dynamic and real time load factor that can be shared with other network elements is disclosed. The load factor can be used in determining the relative load among a set of network elements and in distributing new sessions requests as well as existing session on the set of network elements. The load factor can also be used for determining to which network element a user equipment is handed off. The dynamic load factor can also be shared amongst network elements to determine how the load is balanced among the network elements, such as a mobility management entity (MME).

摘要: Methods and systems are provided for updating the quality of service (QoS) of an IP flow in a wireless communications system. More particularly, the methods and systems provide the ability to update a QoS grant from any level of QoS to any other level of QoS, from no QoS to some level of QoS, and from some level of QoS to no level of QoS. The update of QoS can be based, at least in part, on a request being made for an updated QoS. A decision is made whether or not to update the QoS; and depending on the decision, the QoS can be updated.

摘要: Systems and methods are disclosed that provide self management of network devices in a communication network. These management abilities allow a network device to perform functions, for example, that improve resource distribution, allow for maintenance and upgrades, and provide session management and policy enforcement in a coherent and organized fashion. In a self organizing network (SON), some network devices can be configured to provide self-configuration and self-optimizing capabilities to provide the ability to automate certain operations and management functions and system management functions. The SON incorporates self-configuration, self-optimization, monitoring, and operation management to allow the network devices to be inserted into the network and operate with little to no human intervention.

摘要: Systems and methods for controlling congestion on a packet data network are provided. The congestion control may be implemented between any two network nodes where a regulation of a data flow is desired to prevent a device overload from occurring. In order to provide regulation of a data flow, congestion control states are used where each state regulates the data flow in a specified manner. State transitions may occur in response to messages that include congestion information detected at a network node.

More particularly, monitoring and reporting packet data session usage for purposes of charging for service usage are provided. In some embodiments, layer-3 data packet monitoring is used to determine usage. In other embodiments, the start and end of a packet data session are used to determine usage. The usage can be determined from the duration of the packet data session or from the size or amount of packets sent and received by a mobile node.

摘要: In one embodiment, a gateway implements: detecting that a mobile device using a communication session in a mobile network is associated with a mobile videoconferencing application, where the videoconferencing application is capable of sending and receiving media streams; and providing from the mobile network to a videoconferencing system within a fixed network a first set of indicators associated with the communication session, and performing policy control, the policy control including: causing the videoconferencing system within the fixed network to be configured to accommodate communications with the mobile device, causing an adjustment to a session bearer within the mobile network to meet a quality of service requirement of a videoconferencing media stream connected to the mobile device, and causing a media bridge to provide a media stream to accommodate the end point.
