This invention relates to a process for improving the color stability of a polyamide resin by providing a molding composition comprising 20 to 80 weight percent of a polyamide having a melting point of from 280 DEG C to 340 DEG C; 0 to 50 weight percent of an inorganic filler; 10 to 35 weight percent of a flame retardant with 50-70 weight percent bromine, and 1 to 10 weight percent of an antimony compound, adding from 0.1 to 4 weight percent zinc borate to the molding composition. The above weight percents are based upon the total amount of polyamide, inorganic filler, flame retardant, antimony compound, and zinc borate only. Molding the molding composition to make a molded part is part of the invention.

The instant invention provides an aromatic polyamide composition for molding which is of superior rigidity, strength, toughness, dimensional stability, resistance to chemicals, external surface appearance and sliding characteristics in high-humidity, high-temperature environments, which has a low coefficient of linear expansion and which is of low warpage. In a representative composition, 5 to 170 parts by weight of wollastonite of a number average length of approximately 5 νm to approximately 180 νm and a number average diameter of approximately 0.1 νm to 15.00 νm and the average aspect ratio of which is greater than 3 : 1 is compounded with 100 parts by weight of semi-aromatic polyamide in which the quantity of aromatic monomer in the monomer component that forms the polyamide is greater than 20 mol % and the melting point of which is greater than 280 °C.

Processes for laser welding polyolefin compositions to different thermoplastic resins are disclosed. Such polyolefin compositions comprise 80-99 weight percent of a first polyolefin and 1 to 20 weight percent of a second polyolefin (modified with a carboxylic acid, a carboxylic acid anhydride, and/or an epoxy group), based on the total weight of the polyolefin and modified polyolefin. These compositions can be laser welded to polyamides and polyesters, for example. Additives such as flame retardants, impact modifiers and the like may be incorporated in conventional amounts. Moreover, black colorants may also be selected for use in these compositions for molding transparent articles for laser welding. Laser welded articles made using these processes are also contemplated.
