There is provided a damping material (1) comprising at least one type of polymeric material, characterized in that the polymeric material has a sea-island structure wherein the loss coefficient tandeltaI of polymeric material constituting the island phase of the sea-island structure is greater than the loss coefficient tandeltaM of polymeric material constituting the sea phase of the sea-island structure and wherein the ratio of elasticity of polymeric material constituting the island phase to elasticity of polymeric material constituting the sea phase is in the range of 0.1 to 2. There is further provided a damping material (2) according to the above damping material except that air holes are present in the polymeric material constituting the sea phase. Still further, there is provided a damping material (3) according to the above damping materials except that the shearing elastic modulus muI of polymeric material constituting the island phase is in the range of 5x10 to 4x10 Pa. Still further, there is provided a damping material (4) according to the above damping materials except that the loss coefficient tandeltaI of polymeric material constituting the island phase is in the range of 0.1 to 10. Moreover, there are provided a damping metal sheet (5) with damping structure resulting from bonding of the above damping materials to metal sheets, and the like.
