    摘要: A thin film shielded magnetic read head device comprises an end face extending in a first direction, in which a magnetic information carrier is movable with respect to the magnetic head device, and in a second direction, perpendicular to said first direction. The magnetic head device further comprises shield forming flux guiding elements (S1, S2) for magnetic cooperation with the information carrier, which elements extend in the second direction and in a third direction, perpendicular to the first and the second direction. A number of magnetoresistive elements (F1, IB, F2) each having a spin tunnel junction structure is provided, which number of magnetoresistive elements corresponds to the number of magnetic channels of the magnetic head device. One of said shields (S1) forms a common contact lead for the current through said magnetoresistive elements. The thin film magnetic read head device is applied in a system for reading information from a magnetic information carrier.

    摘要: A method of manufacturing a thin-film magnetic head which is wear-resistant, on the one hand, but has only minimal transducing losses, on the other hand. A layer structure (3) is formed on a substrate (1), whereafter a wear-resistant material (9) is deposited on a surface constituted by a face of the substrate and a face of the layer structure. Before deposition of the wear-resistant material, the surface is selectively etched chemically, with the face of the substrate being moved backwards with respect to the face of the layer structure. After deposition of the wear-resistant material, wear-resistant material is removed from the face of the layer structure by means of a mechanical treatment, and a head face (10) is formed.

The invention relates to magnetoresistive sensors in several geometrical configurations of the target wheel, the sensor and the magnet. All configurations result in a big change of direction of the magnetic field at the location of the sensor as a result of a rotation of the target wheel. The configurations have in common that the direction of the magnetic fiel at the location of the sensor, as generated by the permanent magnet, is predominantly in the plane of the sensor surface, both when the sensor is next to a slot and next to a tooth of the target wheel, the surface of the sensor being substantially normal to the direction of movement of the target wheel.

    摘要: A method for setting an optimum value of a write power level for use in an optical recording apparatus for writing information on a recording layer (3) of an optical recording medium (1) by means of a radiation beam (5) is described. The recording layer is able to change between an amorphous and a crystalline state. The apparatus comprises a radiation source (4) for emitting the radiation beam (5) having a controllable value of a write power level (PW) for recording information on the recording medium, a control unit (12) for recording a series of test patterns in a test area on the recording layer, each pattern being recorded with a different value of the write power level, a read unit (90) for reading the patterns and forming corresponding read signal portions, and first means (10, 101, 102) for deriving a value of a read parameter from at least one read signal portion and setting an optimum value (Popt) of the write power level based on the values of this read parameter. According to the invention the apparatus further comprises second means to perform at least one initial step (40) of at least partly amorphizing and subsequently recrystallizing the recording layer. In this way a consistent result for the determined optimum value (Popt) of the write power level (Pw) is obtained.
