A para-aramide dope of low degree of polymerisation exhibiting an optical anisotropy containing 4-10% by weight of a para-aramide having an intrinsic viscosity of 1.0-2.5 dl/g and 2-10% by weight of an alkali metal chloride or an alkaline earth metal chloride in a polar amide solvent; a process for producing a para-aramide fiber which comprises adding 0.94-0.99 mole of a para-oriented aromatic dicarboxylic acid halide per 1.00 mole of a para-oriented aromatic diamine in a polar amide solvent in which 2-10% by weight of an alkali metal chloride or an alkaline earth metal chloride is dissloved, carrying out a polymerization at a temperature of -20°C to 50°C to form a para-aramide dope of low degree of polymerization exhibiting an optical anisotropy and having a para-aramide concentration of 4-10% by weight, and spinning the dope; and a process for producing a para-aramide pulp which comprises cutting the above-mentioned para-aramide fiber into a short fiber, mechanically fibrillating the short fiber with a high shearing force, and thereafter drying the fibrillated short fiber.

Provided is a porous film obtained by melt-kneading a high-molecular-weight polyolefin having a weight-average molecular weight of not less than 5 x 10 5 , a thermoplastic resin having a weight-average molecular weight of not more than 2 x 10 4 and fine particles, molding the kneaded matter into a sheet, and then stretching the sheet. The porous film can be easily and simply prepared, and has a high piercing strength, and hence can be advantageously used as a separator for a battery, particularly for a lithium secondary battery.

The present invention provides a lightweight prepreg having uniform formation, low linear thermal expansion coefficient and good mechanical strength, comprising a porous para-oriented aromatic polyamide film and a thermoplastic resin and/or a thermosetting resin, the porous para-oriented aromatic polyamide film being impregnated with the thermoplastic resin and/or the thermosetting resin, a process for producing the same, and a printed circuit substrate/board using the same. A process for producing for producing a prepreg comprising a porous para-oriented aromatic polyamide film and a thermoplastic resin and/or a thermosetting resin, the porous para-oriented aromatic polyamide film being impregnated with the thermoplastic resin and/or thermosetting resin, which comprises the following steps (a) to (d): step (a) of forming a film-like material from a solution containing 1 to 10% by weight of a para-oriented aromatic polyamide having an inherent viscosity of 1.0 to 2.8 dl/g and 1 to 10% by weight of a chloride of an alkaline metal or an alkaline earth metal in a polar amide solvent or a polar urea solvent; step (b) of maintaining the film-like material at a temperature of not less than 20°C or not more than -5°C to deposit the para-oriented aromatic polyamide from the film-like material; step (c) of immersing the film-like material obtained in the step (b) in an aqueous solution or an alcoholic solution to elute the solvent and the chloride of the alkaline metal or alkaline earth metal, followed by drying to obtain a para-aramid porous film; and step (d) of impregnating the porous film obtained in the step (c) as a substrate with the thermoplastic resin and/or thermosetting resin to produce a prepreg.

Provided is a porous para-oriented aromatic polyamide film which contains fine particles composed of a heat-resistant resin in an amount of 10 to 400 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of a pare-oriented aromatic polyamide and has a linear thermal expansion coefficient at 200 to 300°C of from -50x10 -6 /°C to +50x10 -6 /°C. The porous para-oriented aromatic polyamide film shows excellent tear propagation resistance and has light weight and low linear thermal expansion coefficient, and is suitable as a prepreg material used for a base substrate for printed circuit board.
