Cryogenic temperature control is provided by use of a liquid nitrogen cooling system. A microprocessor-controlled double function solenoid, temperature sensors, and several mechanical one way release valves regulate the cooling system. Peripheral integrated modules collect, send, receive and display information such as location, core temperature, and the nature of the enclosed material. The carrying case provides a compact laser-etched working area, in addition to a set of basic surgical instruments, needed for procedures using biological materials.

A configurable cryogenic storage device has a freezer and a rack carrier positioned inside of the freezer. The freezer includes a bearing and a drive shaft though the freezer, the drive shaft being coupled to the rack carrier inside the freezer and adapted to be coupled to a motor assembly. The rack carrier rests on the bearing in a manual rotation configuration and hangs from the drive shaft when the motor is connected. Coupling the drive shaft to the motor assembly lifts the rack carrier and decouples the bearing and enables automated rotation of the rack carrier by the motor. The rack carrier includes rack-mounting features holding a plurality of sample storage racks. The sample storage racks hang from the rack carrier and the rack-mounting features precisely position the end of each sample storage rack.

The present invention relates to a method for collecting and preserving biological specimens for biobanking cryopreservation, comprising the steps of i) placing the specimen in a cooling fluid pre-set at a first predetermined temperature of between -10°C and -60°C for snap freezing the specimen, and ii) reducing the temperature of said cooling fluid to a second predetermined temperature suitable for preserving said specimen. The second temperature is most preferably -80°C. The reduction of the temperature in step ii) is performed by a predetermined cooling profile. The invention is further directed to a corresponding apparatus (1), comprising a receiving means (2) for receiving a cooling fluid and the specimen, a cooling means to cool said fluid in said receiving means, and a controller configured to control the cooling means. The receiving means comprises at least one reservoir (3, 30) and a working plate (4).The cooling means is preferably a stirling cooler using Argon gas.

The present invention provides a biological sample vitrification carrier and a method for freezing a biological sample rapidly, simply, conveniently, closely and sterilely. Specifically, the carrier comprises a main body and a sealing cap. A near end of the main body and an inner bottom surface of the sealing cap are mutually sealed to form a sealed frozen sample placing region. The frozen sample placing region is provided with a frozen sample placing platform, the main body is provided with a frozen liquid circulating channel, and the sealing cap is provided with a guide hole corresponding to the frozen liquid circulating channel, so that, when the biological sample is frozen, frozen liquid circulating in the channel contacts with an outer surface of the frozen sample placing region and cools the biological sample in the frozen sample placing region. The biological sample vitrification carrier and the method in the present invention have the advantages of safety, nontoxicity and high vitrification and rewarming operation efficiency and have wide application prospects in the field of biological sample freezing.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Kryolagersystem zur Aufnahme, Speicherung und Ausgabe von Proben umfassend einen Kryoraum, ein thermisch isoliertes Zwischenlager, Mittel zum Transport mindestens eines Probenträgers zwischen dem Kryoraum und dem Zwischenlager sowie einen Arbeitsraum mit einer Schleuse zum Transport von Proben zwischen einem Probentransportgefäß und dem Arbeitsraum, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass in dem Kryoraum (1) eine Probenträgeraufnahme (4) zur Aufnahme mehrerer Probenträger (10) vorhanden ist; die Probenträgeraufnahme (4) beweglich gelagert und mit einem gesteuerten Antrieb (7) in Verbindung steht, so dass die einzelnen Probenträger (10) dem ersten Zugang (1.1) des Kryoraums (1) zustellbar sind; das Zwischenlager (2) und der Arbeitsraum (3) gegeneinander thermisch isoliert sind; das Zwischenlager (2) und der Arbeitsraum (3) miteinander über einen verschließbaren zweiten Zugang (2.1) in Verbindung stehen; der Boden des Arbeitsraums (3) mindestens über einen Bereich von unten und von außerhalb des Kryoraums (1) zugänglich ist und in dem Boden des Arbeitsraums (3) ein verschließbarer dritter Zugang (3.1) mit einem Dichtungselement (21) und einer Arretiervorrichtung (20) zur lösbaren Arretierung eines Probengefäßes (22) derart vorhanden sind, dass das Probengefäß (22) gasdicht an dem dritten Zugang (3.1) des Arbeitsraums (3) arretierbar ist und Proben zwischen einem arretierten Probengefäß (22) und dem Arbeitsraum (3) transportiert werden können.
