Abstract:
Freshness-keeping agents for collected higher plants being capable of exerting a freshness-keeping effect on various plants such as collected plants regardless of the plant type and having a high safety. These freshness-keeping agents comprise a sugar- or sugar alcohol-type surfactant (A) together with at least one member selected from the group consisting of (B) sugars, (C) plant hormones, (D) aging inhibitors, (E) colloidal particle flocculating/precipitating agents and (F) bactericides and preservatives, preferably at a specific weight ratio.
Abstract:
Process for the disinfection and/or preservation of harvested plant material by contacting the harvested plant material with a liquid composition containing at least one peroxygen compound and at least one preservative.
Abstract:
A method for preserving animal feed, including pet food, by controlling mold and yeast growth during the storage of such feed is disclosed, wherein the feed comprises processed grains, and optionally molasses, by adding to the processed grain or to the total feed mix, an amount of an alkali metal sulfite, bisulfite, metabisulfite or mixtures thereof sufficient to arrest the destructive effects of oxidation, mainly mold growth, which occurs during the storage of such animal feed. The alkali metal sulfite, bisulfite or metabisulfite is preferably added to the animal feed, together with an inorganic sulfate.

Abstract:
An edible product having a thin inorganic coating on at least a portion of its surface. The coating preferably forms a moisture/oxygen barrier to result in a coated edible product having an improved shelf-life. The edible products include food and pharmaceuticals. The inorganic materials used for the coating include SiO2, SiO, MgO, CaO, TiO2, ZnO and MnO. Processes and apparatuses for depositing a thin film of inorganic material onto an edible substrate are also disclosed. The preferred processes include sputtering and vapor deposition. The preferred apparatus provides for the continuous production of coated edible products.
Abstract:
Abstract:
Edible seeds are sanitized with a composition comprising water, a biocidal agent and a solvent. The composition is applied to the seeds and the seeds are later dried without first rinsing the seeds. The application rate may be 15% by weight of the seeds or less. The solvent may be a water-miscible alcohol such as ethanol or propylene glycol. When sanitizing mucilaginous seeds, the composition comprises one or more alcohols in an amount effective to inhibit the release of mucilage. The composition is initially applied as a mist to mucilaginous seeds. The biocidal agent may be an oxidizer such as peracetic acid. A treatment system includes an atomizing sprayer and a dryer, for example a fixed bed forced-air dryer.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a composition of water-soluble ingredients (CWSI) which when solubilized in water (W) and either in the presence of a wetting agent and/or in the presence of at least one agriculturally acceptable solvent, forms a synergistic composition useful for the control of pathogens and/or the prevention of diseases associated with the presence of said pathogens in and/or on seeds. Said composition of water-soluble ingredients (CWSI) comprises at least one oxidizer in liquid form or solid form, or a precursor thereof in liquid or solid form, said at least one agriculturally acceptable solvent is soluble in water (W); the water-soluble ingredients (CWSI) is dissolved in the water (W), in a weight ratio (CWSI)/(W) ranging from 1:100 to 1:4, and when present, said at least one agriculturally acceptable solvent represents from 2% by volume to 70% by volume of the total volume of the synergistic composition to be formed. The invention also relates to a synergistic composition for the control of pathogens and/or the prevention of diseases associated with the presence of said pathogens in and/or on seeds, and a method and a use of the same.
