Abstract:
A reference jig comprises a base adapted to be secured to a distal end of a bone. An adjustment mechanism has a bracket, one or more rotational joints operatively mounting the bracket to the base, whereby the bracket is rotatable in two or more rotational degrees of freedom relative to the base, and one or more translational joints. A landmark alignment unit is operatively connectable to the bracket by the at least one translational joint, the landmark alignment unit having a bone alignment component configured to be aligned with at least one bone landmark.

Abstract:
An apparatus for performing dental surgery includes a central processing unit that controls automated operation of the apparatus and a display that renders an image of a target tooth requiring surgical intervention. The image of a target tooth being created from an image file received from the central processing unit. An input device receives surgical instructions from a user for providing the surgical intervention. The instructions are provided to the central processing unit for process. The surgical instructions include visual indications on the image of a target tooth that is to be treated. A robotic arm that includes an end effector is in communication with the central processing unit. The central processing unit controls the robotic arm to remove a region of the target tooth. The system also simultaneously mills the final tooth restoration in a separate milling chamber.
Abstract:
Systems and methods of tracking the position of an endoscope within a patient's body during an endoscopic procedure is disclosed. The devices and methods include determining a position of the endoscope within the patient in the endoscope's coordinate system, capturing in an image fiducial markers attached to the endoscope by an external optical tracker, transforming the captured fiducial markers from the endoscope's coordinate system to the optical tracker's coordinate system, projecting a virtual image of the endoscope on a model of the patient's organ, and projecting or displaying the combined image.
Abstract:
A surgical device includes one or more cameras integrated therein. The view of each of the one or more cameras can be integrated together and provided to a surgeon display and/or an assistant display. A surgical tool that includes an integrated camera may be used in conjunction with the surgical device. The image produced by the camera integrated with the surgical tool may be associated with the images generated by the one or more cameras integrated in the surgical device. The position and orientation of the cameras and/or the surgical tool can be tracked, and the surgical tool can be rendered as at least partially transparent. A surgical device may be powered by a hydraulic system, thereby reducing electromagnetic interference with tracking devices.
Abstract:
A medical apparatus is described for providing visualization of a surgical site. The medical apparatus includes an electronic display disposed within a display housing. The medical apparatus includes a display optical system disposed within the display housing, the display optical system comprising a plurality of lens elements disposed along an optical path. The display optical system is configured to receive images from the electronic display. The medical apparatus can include proximal cameras mounted on a frame, the cameras configured to provide a view of a surgical site from outside the surgical site. The display housing can have a height that is larger than its depth.
Abstract:
A system and a method are provided for simulating a breast deformation of a subject using sensor data obtained from an orientation sensor of a mobile device, with the orientation sensor being configured for sensing an orientation of the mobile device with respect to a direction of gravity. In accordance with the system and method, model data is accessed which defines a biomechanical model of a breast. A simulation subsystem is provided for obtaining the sensor data from the orientation sensor of the mobile device and for determining a gravitational breast deformation by applying a gravitational force to the biomechanical model in a direction which is defined based on the orientation of the mobile device. A deformed model may be displayed on a display of the mobile device. The system and the method provide an intuitive way of simulating the breast deformation.
Abstract:
A system to treat a patient comprises a user interface that allows a physician to view an image of tissue to be treated in order to develop a treatment plan to resect tissue with a predefined removal profile. The image may comprise a plurality of images, and the planned treatment is shown on the images. The treatment probe may comprise an anchor, and the image shown on the screen may have a reference image marker shown on the screen corresponding to the anchor. The planned tissue removal profile can be displayed and scaled to the image of the target tissue of an organ such as the prostate, and the physician can adjust the treatment profile based on the scaled images to provide a treatment profile in three dimensions. The images shown on the display may comprise segmented images of the patient with treatment plan overlaid on the images.
Abstract:
Provided herein is an adaptor for modifying the operation of a surgical bone-tool, comprising: a housing having a distal end and a proximal end coupled between a chuck and an operating bit of said tool, such that force generated by a motor of the tool is delivered to the operating bit through the adaptor; a clutch, contained in the housing, having an engaged and a disengaged configurations, respectively interconnecting and disconnecting the chuck to the operating bit; the clutch automatically disengages in response to an electric current, causing a cutoff of the force delivery; wherein the housing comprises a proximal fastener, sized and shaped to connect with the operating bit and a distal fastener, sized and shaped to connect with the chuck.
Abstract:
A method of planning and preparing for a total knee arthroplasty procedure, the method comprising: generating three-dimensional models of a tibia and a femur of a patient; sizing the tibia and the femur to within a range based on the three-dimensional models; selecting a resection tool for each of the tibia and femur based on the three-dimensional models; and packaging the resection tools. A method of planning and preparing for a surgical procedure can comprise: generating a three-dimensional bone model for one or more bones; sizing the one or more bones based on the three-dimensional model; recording a surgical plan based on the three-dimensional bone model; selecting a first surgical tool for the one or more bone based on the surgical plan; and evaluating selection of a second surgical tool based on a performance parameter of the first surgical tool.
