Systems and methods for producing consistent spray patterns and for diminishing clogging experienced when applying spray adhesive from a spray gun are provided. One system includes an automatic non-atomizing spray valve operably coupled to a first and second flow valve. The spray and flow valves are electronically controlled using logic running on a processing unit. The logic is programmed to carry out a spray cycle that involves dispensing a first liquid from the spray valve (first phase) and then dispensing a second liquid through the same spray valve (second phase). Because the first liquid (e.g., water-based adhesive) has the potential to clog a nozzle of the spray valve, a short burst of the second liquid (e.g., cleaning fluid) is introduced to prevent the nozzle from clogging. The spray valve is configured as a pulse width modulated spray gun to further reduce clogging and to generate an evenly distributed spray pattern.

To this end, printing paper according to the present invention includes a base material and a coating layer disposed on the base material and being capable of receiving an oil-based ink, and the coating layer includes, in an upper portion thereof, an ink receiving layer containing a cationic polymer and being capable of receiving the water-base ink by allowing the water-based ink to penetrate into the ink receiving layer. When ejected onto the printing paper, the water-based ink penetrates into the ink receiving layer included in the upper portion of the coating layer and is received, so that bleeding of the water-based ink is suppressed. The printing paper can be manufactured at low costs without containing expensive materials such as inorganic fine particles. The surface condition of the coated paper for offset printing can thus be modified so as to be suitable for the water-based ink at low costs.

Apparatus is described for transforming a solid polymer resist into an aerosol of small particles, electrostatically charging and depositing the particles onto a substrate, and flowing the particles into a continuous layer. Apparatus is further described for transforming solid resist into an aerosol of small particles by heating the resist to form a low viscosity liquid such as is compatible with nebulization and applying the techniques of jet or impact nebulization and aerosol particle sizing to form the aerosol. A method is further described of using ionized gas to confer charge onto the aerosol particles and using a progression of charging devices establish an electric field directing the flow of charged particles to the substrate. The progression of charging devices and associated apparatus results in high collection efficiency for the aerosol particles.

The material to be deposited is charged to an opposite polarity than that of the trace and then the deposition material is applied to the trace. Consequently, the substrate electrostatically retains the deposition material on the collection trace.
