The present application describes a method for laser scribing first and second transparent electrically conductive layers (14, 14′) deposited on respective opposing first and second surfaces (12, 13) of a transparent substrate (11), the method comprising: directing a first laser beam (21) through one or more lenses (22) to a focal spot on or closely adjacent to the first surface (12) of the substrate (11), such that the focusing laser beam (21) passes through the second electrically conductive layer (14′) and the second surface (13) of the substrate (11); initiating relative movement between the first laser beam (21) and the substrate (11) in two axes in a plane orthogonal to the axis of the first laser beam (21) to scribe a first pattern in the first electrically conductive layer (14); directing a second laser beam (21′) through one or more lenses (22′) to a focal spot on or closely adjacent to the second surface (13) of the substrate (11), such that the focusing laser beam (21′) passes through the first electrically conductive layer (14) and the first surface (12) of the substrate (11), initiating relative movement between the second laser beam (21′) and the substrate (11) in two axes in a plane orthogonal to the axis of the second laser beam (21′) to scribe a second pattern in the second electrically conductive layer (14′).

In this welding method, clad material (6) is disposed between positive electrode tab (2) of second single cell (1B) and negative electrode tab (3) of first single cell (1A). Next, with a laser welder, focal point (F2) is aimed at interface (8) between negative electrode tab (3) and clad material (6), and laser (L2) is applied thereto from the side of negative electrode tab (3). Then, focal point (F1) is aimed at interface (7) between positive electrode tab (2) and clad material (6), and laser (L1) is applied thereto from the side of positive electrode tab (2).

A method for marking a thin workpiece is designed to prevent deformation of the workpiece. A plurality of lasers are opposed to respective opposite sides of the workpiece so as to both sides are heat treated. The lasers can operate synchronously with the respective emitted beams aligned with one another. As a result, the workpiece does not exhibit signs of deformation upon the completion of the marking. The workpiece is made either from plastic or metals and has a thickness not exceeding 2 millimeters. The lasers each are configured as either a fiber laser or a gas laser. The marking can be performed by lasers which are configured uniformly or non-uniformly and includes annealing, engraving and ablating. The marking can be performed synchronously or sequentially. The multi-surface marking could also be used to cause “distortion of the surface in a more controlled or desired fashion.
