An object of the invention is to provide a granulation method and a granulation apparatus that can reduce the manufacturing costs of pellets. There is provided a granulation method which uses an underwater cutting (UWC) device 107 that cuts a medium to be processed extruded from holes of a die 106 by using cutter blades provided in a circulation box 109 and conveys the cut pellets from the circulation box 109 while cooling the cut pellets by pellet cooling/transport water (PCW). The granulation method includes circulating the PCW and stopping the circulation of the PCW after pushing the cutter blades against the die 106 while rotating the cutter blades, before the start of the granulation; storing a predetermined amount of PCW in the circulation box 109 by discharging the PCW; and heating the PCW, which is stored in the circulation box 109, up to 69°C or more.

The first and second barrel pad co-operating to define a recess configured to receive an extruder liner. The length of the first and second barrel pad is less than the length of the extruder liner such that the extruder liner defines an end surface that projects beyond the extruder barrel section on at least one side. The end surface is configured to abut the end surface of another extruder liner. The extruder barrel section further comprises of a locking structure configured to lock the first barrel pad to the second barrel pad with the extruder liner therebetween.

[PROBLEMS] To provide: a skinned foam which has a satisfactory appearance and to which functions such as lightweight properties, heat-insulating properties, sound-absorbing properties, a reduced permittivity, cushioning properties, and flexibility have been imparted without significantly reducing excellent properties inherent in ultrahigh-molecular polyethylene, such as wearing resistance, self-lubricity, impact resistance, low-temperature properties, and chemical resistance; and a process for stably producing the foam. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] The foam is one which is obtained by foaming ultrahigh-molecular polyethylene having a viscosity-average molecular weight of 300,000 to 10,000,000 and which has a density of 0.02 to 0.7 g/cm3. The foam can be produced by adding, in an extruder, carbon dioxide to the ultrahigh-molecular polyethylene in a molten state and extruding and foaming the melt in such a manner that the resin residence time and pressure in the die part are specific values and that the surface temperature and central-part temperature of the resin immediately after ejection from the die are given values.
