An IHUA air handler (1a, 1b, 1c, 1d) has one or more Modular Evaporation-Absorption Panels or heat pipe assemblies with two sets of heat transfer fin assemblies. An E-A panel or E-A heat pipe assembly has a film evaporative zone and a film absorption zone that respectively exchange heat with air to be cooled and air to be heated through the two sets of fin assemblies. An IHUA system can also provide cool thermal storage by storing water and absorbing solutions. IHUA system can be used in air conditioning buildings and moving vehicles.

The reduced-temperature water can be delivered to the enclosed space or device or can cool a coolant that is delivered to the enclosed space or device. The air in the enclosed space, or one or more components in the enclosed space, can be cooled by delivering the reduced- temperature water or coolant to the enclosed space, rather than moving the supply air from the enclosed space to the cooling system. In an example, the cooling system can include one or more cooling coils, upstream or downstream of the LAMEE.

According to the present invention, there are provided a heat pump with a high coefficient of performance and a dehumidifying apparatus which consumes a small amount of energy per amount of moisture removal. The heat pump comprise a pressurizer 260 for raising a pressure of a refrigerant; a condenser 220 for condensing the refrigerant to heat a high-temperature heat source fluid; an evaporator 210 for evaporating the refrigerant to cool a low-temperature heat source fluid; and heat exchanging means 300 disposed in a refrigerant path connecting the condenser 220 and the evaporator 210, for evaporating and condensing the refrigerant under an intermediate pressure between the condensing pressure of the condenser 220 and the evaporating pressure of the evaporator 210 to cool the low-temperature heat source fluid by evaporation of the refrigerant under the intermediate pressure and to heat the low-temperature heat source fluid by condensation of the refrigerant under the intermediate pressure. The low-temperature heat source fluid is successively cooled by the heat exchanging means, cooled by the evaporator, and heated by the heat exchanging means in the order named. The low-temperature heat source fluid can be precooled by the heat exchanging means prior to cooling in the evaporator, and the amount of heat removed in the precooling process can be recovered from the low-temperature heat source fluid which has been cooled by the evaporator.
