摘要:
A method includes segmenting a virtual volume into an active area configured to map to a first type of storage and a non-active area configured to map to a second type of storage through a storage virtualization engine. The second type of storage includes data associated with a host device and the first type of storage includes point-in-time images corresponding to the data associated with the host device. The first type of storage offers a higher performance than that of the second type of storage. The method also includes allocating a portion of space in the first type of storage to serve as a cache memory during a write operation and/or a read operation, and reducing a latency associated with the response to a write request and/or a read request through performing the corresponding write operation and/or the read operation through the first type of storage.

The present invention provides a virtual automated cartridge system (ACS) (10) and data storage device management method which incorporates a temporary data buffer arrangement (32) between multiple user systems (12, 14) and conventional physical data storage devices (24, 26, 28, 30). The temporary data buffer arrangement (32) emulates a compatible physical data storage device when accessed by each of the user systems, but allows simultaneous allocation of different users to access to read and write data to the temporary data buffer. A control processor automatically transfers data stored in the temporary data buffer arrangement (32) to one of the physical data storage devices when allocation to a user has ended.

The present invention measures an actual utilization frequency of data and controls a location of this data in a storage apparatus in a case where a host computer makes joint use of a storage apparatus and a cache apparatus. A portion of data used by an application program 1A is stored in a storage apparatus 2 and a cache apparatus 3. A management apparatus 4 detects an I/O load of a page (4A), and detects an I/O load of cache data (4B). The management apparatus 4 determines a corresponding relationship between the page and the cache data (4C), and adds the I/O load of the cache data to the I/O load of the page.

Upgrades are made to the available capacity of cache disk storage without adding drawer(s) or blade(s) when the upgrade is requested. A cache control is configured to respond to a requested capacity upgrade, establishing a capacity restriction applicable to a filesystem providing active perceived available capacity spanning the disk drive subunits, such as drawers, blades or disk drives. The active perceived available data storage capacity and unused capacity of the filesystem are spread across the disk drive subunits. The capacity restrict ion is related to the requested upgrade adjustment, and the capacity restriction controls rates of data transfer with respect to the filesystem. The capacity restriction may comprise a freespace threshold for throttling of a fill rate of resident data pending premigration from the cache disk storage filesystem, and a premigration threshold for increasing drain rate of premigration data from the cache disk storage filesystem.

A system and method for reading files stored on a storage system is disclosed. The method includes communicatively coupling one or more remote systems for reading files stored in storage with a first set of files according to a predetermined data format and in a cache memory with a second set of files, the second set of files being a subset of the first set of files. Next one or more remote systems are received at least one read request for reading a sequence of files. A determination is made, among the files of the sequence of files, whether one or more cached files are already stored in the cache memory and whether one or more remaining files are not already stored in the cache memory. Creating, within the one or more remaining files, an order according to which the remaining files should be read on the storage system.

Methods for dynamic memory cache size adjustment, enabling dynamic memory cache size adjustment, memory devices, and memory systems are disclosed. One such method for dynamic memory cache size adjustment determines available memory space in a memory array and adjusts a size of a memory cache in the memory array responsive to the available memory space.

A hybrid storage device uses a write cache such as a hard disk drive, for example, to cache data to a solid state drive (SSD). Data is logged sequentially to the write cache and later migrated to the SSD. The SSD is a primary storage that stores data permanently. The write cache is a persistent durable cache that may store data of disk write operations temporarily in a log structured fashion. A migration policy may be used to determine how long to cache the data in the write cache before migrating the data to the SDD. The migration policy may be implemented using one or more migration triggers that cause the contents of the write cache to be flushed to the SSD. Migration triggers may include a timeout trigger, a read threshold trigger, and a migration size trigger, for example.
