The housing (11) includes a leg section (111) for insertion into an opening of a board and a head section (112) for positioning on a top surface of the board. Each retainer piece (12) includes a cantilever spring section (122). The cantilever spring sections (122) are fixed to a portion of the leg section (111) protruding from a bottom surface of the board and are deformed in a direction towards a side surface (111s) of the leg section (111) when the leg section (111) is inserted into the opening and resiles after passing through the opening to retain the connector (1) in the opening in the board. The contacts (14) protrude from the head section (112) toward the board and are pressed and deformed by terminals (23) on the top surface of the board when the leg section (111) is inserted into the opening and when the connector (1) is retained by the retainer pieces (12).
