Methods and apparatus are described relating to a system-on-a-chip which includes a plurality of synchronous modules, each synchronous module having an associated clock domain characterized by a data rate, the data rates comprising a plurality of different data rates. The system-on-a-chip also includes a plurality of clock domain converters. Each clock domain converter is coupled to a corresponding one of the synchronous modules, and is operable to convert data between the clock domain of the corresponding synchronous module and an asynchronous domain characterized by transmission of data according to an asynchronous handshake protocol. An asynchronous crossbar is coupled to the plurality of clock domain converters, and is operable in the asynchronous domain to implement a first-in-first-out (FIFO) channel between any two of the clock domain converters, thereby facilitating communication between any two of the synchronous modules.

A system and method for collecting call detail record (CDR) data in a multi-site enterprise environment and providing call accounting services based on such information. A single multi-site IP buffer box (MIBB) receives CDR data from several private branch exchange (PBX) units over an IP network in real time. The MIBB maintains a table with the IP addresses of each PBX unit from which CDR data may be received. Each IP address is associated with a particular PBX and/or enterprise site. For each CDR ticket received, the MIBB identifies the particular PBX unit transmitting the CDR ticket based on the source address of the transmitting PBX unit. The MIBB then generates a CDR message including the CDR data and information on the particular PBX unit and/or enterprise site to which the CDR data pertains. The MIBB transmits the CDR message to a call accounting processor over a serial or network connection if the call accounting processor is enabled. If the call accounting processor is disabled, the CDR message is stored in a buffer until the processor becomes enabled.

This present invention relates to a multifunctional apparatus and communication method for transferring and receiving facsimile data and communication data by using an integrated service digital network. In a plurality of bandwidth control apparatuses accommodating a plurality of access lines in a bandwidth control system, multiplexed signal lines of respective bandwidth control apparatuses are connected to one another in cascade. Each bandwidth control apparatus acquires a bandwidth state of the access lines in the own apparatus and notifies the other apparatuses of the bandwidth state of the own apparatus having been acquired. Therefore, the bandwidth control apparatus can allocate a transmission bandwidth to be controlled in the own apparatus using a ratio of the bandwidth state occupied by the own apparatus to a total bandwidth states occupied in the bandwidth control system, and can control transmission bandwidths of the respective access lines accommodated in the own apparatus.

A data communication system referred to as an Asynchronous/Synchronous Converter (110) is provided to facilitate the communications between a data terminal equipment (DTE) (100) device using the asynchronous communication port, and a dial-up router located in a digital network. When running a dial-up TCP/IP program over the asynchronous port, DTEs (100) use a protocol called Asynchronous Point-to-Point Protocol (Asynchronous PPP). On the other hand, dial-up routers usually support Synchronous PPP. The data communication system of the invention connects the DTE (100) to the digital network and ultimately to the dial-up routers and provides two-way conversion between Asynchronous PPP and Synchronous PPP that is transparent to both the DTE (100) and the router. This two-way conversion is enabled in part by the converter intercepting and storing certain link control protocol (LCP) packets and using data in those packets to effect a translation.
