The recording medium (50) has an electrode layer (57), a magnetic layer (55) that is stacked on the electrode layer, and a wear-resistant thin film (53) that is stacked on the magnetic layer. The head (60) has a conductive probe (51) for injecting charge to record information and sensing the charge injected into the recording medium to reproduce information in a state that the conductive probe contacts the recording medium. A magnetic medium, which is coated with a wear-resistant thin film, stores charges to record information and reproduce information using an electrostatic force. Thus, it is possible to stably store highly integrated information. Also, a probe contacts a recording medium to record and reproduce information at a high speed. Thus, sensitivity and resolution can be improved.

An endless tape reproducer which reproduces an endless tape on which a signal such as video signal is recorded. An object of the reproducer is to reproduce a recording medium at a high degree of accuracy for an extended period of time by employing a recording medium which can be readily duplicated and which is capable of recording a large quantity of signals. The endless tape (2) is wound on a stationary reel (1), and the portion of the tape at the innermost periphery thereof is introduced into the interior of the reel (1) and wound on the outermost periphery of the tape (2) over the reel (1) through a capstan (4) and a pinch roller (5). The endless tape (2) has a conductive layer, on which a signal is recorded as an irregular pattern. An electrostatic head (7) has an electrode facing the tape (2), and reproduces a signal recorded on the tape (2) due to the variances in the electrostatic capacity between the electrode and the irregular pattern on the tape (2).
