PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolyte, electrolytic solution or solid electrolyte showing an excellent cycle characteristic, for use with lithium batteries, lithium ion batteries, or electrochemical devices such as electric double-layer capacitors, and to provide a battery using it. SOLUTION: The electrolyte for an electrochemical device comprises a compound of the general formula 1 and one or more of compounds of general formulae 2 to 4. In the formulae, M represents a transition metal or an element of the groups III to V; A represents a metal ion, a hydrogen ion or an onium ion; (a) is 1 to 3; b is 1 to 3; p is b/a; m is 1 to 4; n is 1 to 8; q is 0 or 1; R represents a C1-10 alkylene or the like; R represents halogen, a C1-10 alkyl or the like, or X R ; X , X and X each represent O, S or NR 4; R and R each represent hydrogen, a C1-10 alkyl, or a C1-10 alkyl halide or the like; Y , Y and Y each represent an SO2 group or a CO group; and R to R each represent an electron-withdrawing organic substituent group.
