Abstract: It is an object of this invention to provide an active headrest which will not over-push the head of a passenger. For this purpose, the invention provides a headrest controller for moving a part (20A) or whole of a headrest (20) of a vehicle seat toward a head of the passenger to reduce the distance between the headrest (20) and the head in the horizontal direction by predicting or detecting a crash to the rear of the vehicle, including a head position detecting unit (11) for detecting a predetermined state of approach or state of contact of the headrest (20) to or with the head during the movement of the headrest (20) and a control circuit for stopping the headrest based on a detection signal from the head position detecting unit (11).

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow an occupant to easily get out a vehicle after completion of a lower limb restricting operation. SOLUTION: When an active knee bolster 20 operates and a body 22 of the active knee bolster 20 rotates toward the back of the vehicle about a shaft 44, a wire 48 connected to a bracket 40 of the active knee bolster 20 moves, and a shaft member 58 of a footrest 50 connected to the other end section 48B of the wire 48 moves toward the back of the vehicle along a slit 56 of the base 54 of the footrest 50. Thus, a footrest supporting bracket 60 rotates toward the front side of the vehicle about the shaft member 58, the body 66 of the footrest 50 falls toward the front side of the vehicle about a shaft member 70, thereby decreasing tilting angle θ1 of the body 66 with respect to the floor 52. Abstract: The device has a head rest with an electronic control unit executing a driving control to drive the head rest towards a front by activating a motor in response to a proceed signal from a pre-collision system-electronic control unit. The unit terminates the driving of the head rest by stopping the motor due to a positional relation between a passenger head and the head rest to attain a preset position relation, from signals provided from a capacitive proximity sensor. The unit maintains the motor in a stop state during a preset time after the driving control drives the headrest. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling an active head restraint.
