PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a technology of controlling whether to execute the deletion processing of only management information or the deletion processing of a folder itself in accordance with the management information of the folder registered when the folder is created.SOLUTION: An information processing device includes: folder management means for managing the management information of a folder recorded in a storage medium; folder creation means for newly creating a folder, and for registering the management information of the created folder in the folder management means; folder registration means for registering the management information of the folder present in the storage medium in the folder management means; selection means for selecting the folder to be deleted; and folder deletion means for, when the folder selected by the selection means is the folder created by the folder creation means, deleting the management information of the folder and deleting the folder from the storage medium, and for, when the folder selected by the selection means is the folder registered in the folder registration means, deleting the management information of the folder without deleting the folder from the storage medium.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform optimum file access with an access device, without awareness of the characteristics of a semiconductor memory device. SOLUTION: The semiconductor memory device has therein a device information storage part for storing information on the characteristics of the semiconductor memory device, and an interface controller for performing file access suitable for the characteristics of the semiconductor memory device on the basis of the information, and thus, the access device can achieve optimum file access without awareness of the characteristics of the semiconductor memory device. The semiconductor memory device as above can be used as an information recording medium for digital AV equipment, a mobile phone terminal, a PC and the like. Furthermore, since the semiconductor memory device can achieve optimum file access according to the characteristics of the semiconductor memory device, the device operates especially suitably when it is used as the information recording medium for equipment that records high-quality AV data having high transfer rate. A device is connectable to a computer through USB interface. The device includes a mode switching section configured to switch the device to one of a first mode and a second mode in which an access from the computer to a USB storage device is permitted and prohibited, respectively. When a standard data string is received and the device is in the first mode, the device accesses the physical storage area of the data storage section. When the standard data string is received and the device is in the second mode, the device transmits a pseudo response to the computer, the pseudo response indicating that no storage medium is mounted to the data storage section. When a particular data string is received, the device accesses a file through a file system provided in the device.
