Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide water-absorbing polymer particles little in toxicity. SOLUTION: There is provided a method for producing the water-absorbing polymer particles, comprising copolymerizing a vinyl ester-based compound with an ethylene-based unsaturated carboxylate and then saponifying the obtained copolymer, characterized by using a water-alcohol mixture solvent containing the water in an amount of ≤30 mass% as a saponification solvent on the saponification reaction, and performing the saponification reaction using an alkali in an amount of ≥1.5 mol per mole of the monomers for the copolymer as the saponification alkali. The obtained water-absorbing polymer particles have a physiological salt solution absorption of ≤40 g/g. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT

PURPOSE:To obtain the subject composition capable of giving a coating film which can keep a suitable solubility in seawater for a long time by copolymerizing a specified crosslinking monomer with an ethylenically unsaturated monomer in the presence of a polymerization modifier. CONSTITUTION:100 pts.wt. monomer mixture comprising a cross-linking monomer of formula I (wherein X and Y are groups of formulas II-VI; R is H or methyl; (m) is 1-5; and (n) is 0-2) and other copolymerizable and ethylenically unsaturated monomers in the presence of 1-20 pts.wt. polymerization modifier to obtain a hydrolyzable resin composition of a weight-average molecular weight of 10000-100000. 5-200wt.% antifouling component is added to this composition to obtain the objective composition.

PURPOSE:To enhance a nonlinear optical effect and to improve moldability by constituting the above material with specific structural units. CONSTITUTION:This org. nonlinear optical material is a polymer which consists of the structural units expressed by formulas I and II and in which the unit I is 5 to 100mol%, the unit II is 0 to 95mol% and the mol. wt. is 10,000 to 2,000,000. In the formula, m denotes an integer from 1 to 10; n denotes 0, 1; X denotes formula III; A denotes-NO2,-CN,-CF3 etc,; Y denotes a hydrogen atom, halogen atom,-NO2,-CN,-CF3 etc.; p denotes an integer from 1 to 10. This polymer is synthesized by, for example, three stages; a polymerizing stage, hydrolyzing stage and photofunctional group introducing stage. The org. nonlinear optical material is obtd. by residsolving the resulted copolymer in an org. solvent, such as sulfolane, adding a base, such as pyridine triethylamine, to the soln. and heating the soln. together with the nonlinear optical compd. to be introduced. The nonlinear optical compd. to be introduced includes, for example, P-nitroaniline and its deriv., 4-methyl sulfone biphenyl deriv., etc.

PURPOSE: The titled material having a high transmittance to visible light, a high refractive index and being excellent in scratch resistance, solvent resistance, etc., prepared by copolymerizing a biphenyl (meth)acrylate monomer with a monomer containing a plurality of (meth)allyl groups. CONSTITUTION: A plastic lens material is prepared by copolymerizing a monomer of formula I (wherein R 1 is H or CH 3 , R 2 is a group of formula II and n is 0W2), e.g., o-biphenyl (meth)acrylate, with a monomer containing at least two (meth)allyl groups in the molecule (e.g., diethylene glycol bisallyl carbonate). This lens material has a visible light transmittance ≥88% and a refractive index as high as 1.55 or above and can well meet various properties necessary for a spectacle lens, such as scratch resistance, solvent resistance and grindability with diamond wheels.
