Abstract: An optical navigation device that can sense the movement of an object, such as a user's finger, so that the movement can control a feature of a consumer digital device such as a cursor on a display screen. The device includes a substrate to which an LED, reflector, and image sensor are attached. Light from the LED is directed by the elliptical reflector toward and through a window that is transparent to the light from the LED and then is reflected off of the user's finger back through the window, through a lens, and onto the image sensor. The reflector is positioned to direct light toward the window at an oblique angle, in the range of 65 to 70 degrees from an angle normal to the window. Further, the reflector is curved to gather light across a large solid angle in the vicinity of the LED. The curved shape of the reflector may be a portion of an ellipsoid and the LED may be located at one of the foci of the ellipsoid, with the window located at the other foci of the ellipsoid.

Abstract: Imaging systems and methods for calibrating imaging systems are provided. The imaging system has a body, a scene image capture system that captures images using a taking lens system that can be set to a plurality of different focus distances, and a rangefinder that is capable of determining a distance between the imaging system and at least one portion of a field of view of the taking lens system. The method comprises: automatically capturing a first calibration image of a first field of view through the taking lens system with the taking lens system set to a first focus distance setting; identifying a portion of the first calibration image having a predetermined degree of focus; using the rangefinder to determine a first calibration distance from the imaging device to the identified portion. A focus correlation is determined based upon the first calibration distance and the first focus distance setting.

Abstract: A loom for weaving pile fabric is disclosed, including a plurality of healds for shedding warp yarns, a pile-forming reed through which said warp yarns are guided and a plurality of pile loop forming lances extending in the warp direction so that each pile-forming lance passes through an associated dent in the read, each dent being defined between a pair of spaced apart dent fingers. Each loop forming lance and at least one dent finger of said pair of dent fingers cooperate to guide lateral displacement of the loop forming lance relative to said associated dent. A first group of healds are threaded with ground forming warp yarns and the first group of healds and the loop forming lances are arranged such that the upper and lower shedding positions of said ground forming warp yarns are located below the loop forming lances. A second group of healds are threaded with loop forming pile yarns, the second group of healds and said loop forming glances being arranged such that each loop forming yarn may be moved from a lower position located beneath an associated loop forming lance to an upper position located above said associated loop forming lance. A guide system is provided for guiding movement of each loop forming warp yarn such that during movement from its lower position to its upper position it passes by one side of said associated lance and during movement from its upper position to its lower position it passes by the opposite side of said associated lance to form a loop held upon said associated lance.

Abstract: An f-.theta. lens is disclosed which is particularly suitable for use with a color laser printer in which beams of different wavelengths are combined into a single light beam. The combined light beam is scanned by a rotating polygon onto a receiving medium. The f-.theta. is adapted to operate with 1.) beam shaping optics for shaping the beam in a scan direction prior to the polygon, and 2.) a cylindrical element located behind the f-.theta. lens, to image the light beam in a cross-scan direction onto the receiving medium. The f-.theta. lens includes a plurality of lens components. The lens components cooperate to (a) focus a received combination beam of three different wavelengths onto an image surface, the received combination beam having different vergences and different waist locations in the page and line directions, the vergences and the waist locations being substantially the same in each of the three wavelengths; and (b) compensate for chromatic aberration. This compensation renders the f-.theta. lens an achromatic lens for axial color in both scan and page directions at the image surface. According to the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the .theta. lens is an apochromatic lens with regards to the axial color. The lateral color is corrected electronically.

Abstract: A weft yarn insertion apparatus for a weaving loom, the apparatus including a main fluid nozzle for inserting a length of weft yarn into the warp shed, a pair of nip rollers, for positively feeding the weft yarn into the main nozzle, the nip rollers being located immediately upstream of the main nozzle to enable the nip rollers to propel the leading end of the yarn through the nozzle and into the shed, and a weft yarn guide immediately upstream of the nip rollers, the guide being movable to selectively introduce and withdraw the weft yarn beteween the pair of nip rollers. The rollers are driven so as to project the weft yarn into the shed at a speed in excess of the given speed normally imparted to the yarn by the main nozzle when the yarn is introduced between the rollers. When withdrawn, the rollers permit the nozzle to project the yarn at the given speed.
