Abstract: A process for continuous production of z-threaded fiber reinforced polymer composites. The process includes providing a pre-formed fiber fabric including a plurality of fibers and a pre-formed, solidified film having a film thickness dimension, wherein the film includes a heat-meltable base matrix material in combination with a plurality of z-aligned nanofibers disposed within the base matrix material. The film and fiber fabric are advanced in layered relation through a constricting matrix transfer station, wherein the fiber fabric is heated to a temperature at or above the melting point of the base matrix material and the base matrix material progressively melts at an interface with the fabric face and flows with the nanofibers into the fiber fabric in the fabric thickness dimension as the film and fiber fabric move through the matrix transfer station. The matrix transfer station includes a constricting processing gap urging the film towards the fiber fabric through at least a portion of the matrix transfer station.

Abstract: Systems and methods for visually displaying instances of increased susceptibility for commission of medical errors are provided. Execution of programming instructions on a computer-readable medium causes a processor to retrieve historical workload data corresponding to environmental conditions experienced by and near misses associated with an individual or team of individuals during a first period of time from one or more data repositories. Retrieved workload data is processed to establish threshold limits for distinct working conditions represented within the workload data for the individual or team of individuals. Workload data corresponding to a second period of time is retrieved for the individual or team of individuals and compared to established threshold limits by the processor. Based on the comparison, the processor generates one or more displayable indicia indicative of the individual's or team of individuals' risk of committing a medical error due to an experienced workload.

Abstract: An illumination system incorporating a multi-faceted mirror in operative communication with an array of discrete illumination sources. The multi-faceted mirror may accept incident light beams from discrete illumination sources located at different positions and then deliver a reflected output to a common location for direct acceptance by an optical/imaging device or by a light guide transmission device operatively connected to a downstream optical/imaging device. Individual light sources may be selected and/or combined in a defined sequence by selectively activating and deactivating such light sources electronically with no need for moving parts. By pulsing different illumination sources, the optical/imaging system may be provided with a feed of narrow-band illumination for use in imaging. Outputs from several illumination sources can also be combined if desired to produce a custom-tuned illumination spectrum for a particular application.
