Abstract:
A unitary clip reliably locks the angular end of an actuating rod or the like to a receiving member such as a lever to be actuated. The clip, which may be all metal, all plastic, or partly of plastic, comprises a socket portion axially slotted to receive an angular end of the rod and to be seated in an opening of the lever, and a radially extending locking portion aligned with the socket slot for securing the rod in the socket. Desirably, insertion of the rod in the clip socket portion locks the latter to the lever by a snap fit arrangement, and the locking portion then engages three sides of the rod to retain it. The invention has utility especially in the assembly of door locks of vehicles.
Abstract:
Method of making insole of non-woven bonded fiber sheet material including a shank portion of greater stiffness and density than the forward portion in which a through layer of non-woven fiber sheet including a heat-softenable binder is associated with one or more layers of non-woven fiber sheet including binder in the heel and shank or waist portion of the insole and the layers in the heel and shank or waist portion are consolidated by heat and pressure to a unitary board-like state in the heel and shank region. The insole including the heel and shank region may be given a contour approximating the contour of a bottom of a foot in a pressing operation and may also incorporate a layer of stiff plastic sheet material.
Abstract:
A machine for pulling and lasting a shoe upper has a knurled insole engaging surface on a plate for applying cement to an insole which rocks into insole engagement from a toe-down position after initially engaging a heelward portion of a forepart of the insole. The machine also has grippers adjacent the heelward portion of the insole forepart which grip the upper and then move downwardly to tension the gripped upper over a last, inwardly of the last to draw the upper toward edges of an insole on the last and pivotally of the last to twist and further draw the upper toward the edges of the insole.
Abstract:
A releasable fastener for anchoring a workpiece on a threaded member is of hollow configuration and has opposed resilient wing portions deflectible inwardly. The clip is applied to the threaded member by push-on action and may initially have been formed from sheet metal. The configuration of the clip and its deflectible wing portions is such as to accommodate dimensional variation in production of the workpieces to be assembled. One field of use for the clip is in automotive bumper strip mounting.
Abstract:
A digital circuit for modifying a train of a finite number of pulses has, in a most direct approach, means for deleting selected pulses from the initial pulses of the train and from the final pulses of the train. The circuit has particular utility in driving stepping motors.
Abstract:
Method of making a self-locking internally threaded article such as a nut including a locking body or patch of normally hard, tough, resilient thermoplastic resin adhered to the threaded surface. The article is mounted on a support with the openings at the ends substantially free. A heater raises the temperature of the threaded portion to above the softening point of the resin and a powder jet and guide device directs a stream of fine particles of the resin entrained in a gaseous jet into one of the openings toward a selected area of the threaded surface. Suction is applied adjacent the other opening of the article to draw in air around the guide and through the threaded hole in the article. Resin particles contacing the threaded surface are caught by softening them and causing them to adhere to the threaded surface by heat from the threaded surface to build up a deposit of resin which is fused by heat from the surface to form a continuous plastic body and then hardened by cooling.
Abstract:
A machine for preparing flexible sheet material to be assembled and stiffened. The invention is more especially concerned with providing mechanism for cyclically assembling and stiffening selected portions of footwear, for instance a precoated toe portion of a vamp and a lining. The machine includes in novel combination a particle dispensing means, ply-combining mechanism, and pressure conforming means. A dispensing device distributes granular reinforcing material to the coating of adhesive on an activated formable sheet material, particles of the reinforced material being retained in a thickness pattern conducive to sequential pressure-forming of the assembly, and then recirculates unused granules.
Abstract:
A shoe last having an insole securing member with cutting edges projecting from the forepart of the last bottom, extending lengthwise of the last and being spaced widthwise to cut into an insole to hold the insole on the last bottom. A method for temporarily securing an insole on a last bottom in which the insole material is compressed between the cutting edges for frictionally holding the insole.
Abstract:
A self tapping threaded fastener, the method of making same and the rolling dies therefor wherein said fastener is adapted for assembly with a member in which a standard internal thread is formed by the fastener and in which a zero running torque or controlled prevailing torque is established between said fastener and member. A plurality of thread forming lobes are disposed on an otherwise standard, substantially fully formed thread on the tapered work entering end, wherein predetermined lobes on said tapered end proximate the shank portion are rolled such that their ultimate projection is within the envelope of the imaginary projection of the convolution of the shank thread toward the tip of said fastener. The method of making said fastener includes rolling a substantially continuous thread from said shank portion throughout said tapered work entering portion and simultaneously forming spaced apart thread forming lobes superimposed upon said thread in said work entering portion, then subsequently rerolling said threaded shank portion and said predetermined lobes on the work entering portion to the cylindrical thread convolution of said shank portion, as projected. The dies for rolling said fastener include a first, and second rolling dies, said dies having a fastener entrance end and a fastener exit end, and disposed intermediate said ends thread forming surfaces including a plurality of parallel thread crest forming grooves and thread root forming ridges having a shank forming flat portion being bounded along one edge by an upwardly inclined tip forming surface, said first rolling die being the primary rolling die and having a shank and tip forming section including a lobe forming section wherein a plurality of regularly spaced lobe forming pockets are disposed in said thread forming grooves and ridges in said tip forming surface, a reroll support section wherein said thread forming surfaces match said shank forming flat portion and a release section, said reroll support section of a predetermined rolling length so as to reroll a predetermined number of said thread forming lobes, and a said second rolling die having shank and tip forming sections, and a reroll section so disposed as to reroll a predetermined number of said thread forming lobes.
