Abstract: This disclosure details cooling systems for cooling electric components, such as electric machines, within electrified vehicles. Exemplary cooling systems may include a spray bar positioned relative to a rear face of a stator of the electric machine. In some embodiments, the spray bar may be positioned axially between the rear face of the stator and a torque converter housing. One or more nozzles of the spray bar are configured to direct a coolant between adjacent back irons of the stator, onto end windings of the stator, or both. Actively cooling the stator allows the electric machine to operate at higher torques and speeds, thereby increasing performance.

In one example, an electric motor-generator is provided that includes an engine interface configured to rotationally couple to a first engine, a transmission interface configured to rotationally couple to a first transmission of the first engine, and a rotor with a plurality of magnets at least partially surrounding a stator including a plurality of coils. The rotor is rotationally coupled to the engine interface and the transmission interface.

Abstract: A clutch includes a piston, backing plate, spring, and spring retainer. The piston and the backing plate define a balance chamber therebetween. The piston has a protrusion that extends into and defines a pocket in the chamber. The spring is disposed within the pocket and is configured to disengage the piston from a clutch pack. The spring retainer is disposed between the spring and the backing plate. The retainer extends from the backing plate and into the chamber beyond an end of the protrusion.

Abstract: A planetary gearset is provided in a transmission for a vehicle. The planetary gearset includes a carrier that rotates about the axis. Tone wheels can be used as part of a speed-sensing mechanism in which the tone wheel includes surface features on an outside surface, and a speed sensor senses the surface features as they rotate about the axis and past the speed sensor. The tone wheel is connected to the carrier via a press-fit or interference-fit. To do so, the tone wheel includes legs or flanges that extend inward from an inner surface of the tone wheel. The legs or flanges flex as the tone wheel is pressed onto the carrier. The legs or flanges securely attach the tone wheel to the carrier.
