A tape recording apparatus comprises a first mechanism capable of varying, between a maximum and a minimum length, a tape travel path extending between a recording and reproducing head and a tape take-up roll. A second mechanism controls the first mechanism so that the length of the tape travel path becomes the maximum length at the time of ordinary recording and at the time of editing. The length of the tape travel path becomes the minimum length at the time of a pause mode prior to the editing recording. A third mechanism pulls back the tape by a length equal to the difference between the maximum and minimum lengths, at the time of the pause mode, of the tape path between the tape roll on the tape supply side and the recording and reproducing head. A fourth mechanism detects when the first mechanism reaches substantially maximum tape length at the time of the editing recording mode, and causes the start of editing recording by the recording and reproducing head.

The multiple pointer images 20, a plurality set of which have been stored as data in advance, are selected on the basis of a space between the motion blur pointer image 10 prior to the switching of the pointer image and the normal pointer image 20 after the switching of the pointer image.

A spark ignition engine (2) has a fuel injector (8) in an intake port (7). An engine rotation speed sensor (9) detects the rotation speed of the engine (2). The controller (1) determines the target fuel injection amount of the fuel injector (8) during startup of the engine (2) by correcting the basic injection amount in response to the trend in the variation in the engine rotation speed. When the rotation speed of the engine (2) decreases, the controller (1) sets the target fuel injection amount to be smaller than when the rotation speed of the engine (2) is increasing at an identical rotation speed. As a result, effects on the air-fuel ratio related to wall flow relative to fluctuations in the rotation speed of the engine (2) are eliminated and the control accuracy of the air-fuel ratio of the engine (2) is improved.

In one aspect, an air-fuel ratio control apparatus of an internal combustion engine comprises an air-fuel ratio sensor capable of detecting an air-fuel ratio across both lean and rich ranges with a theoretical air-fuel ratio interposed therebetween. Feedback control is performed so as to bring an actual air-fuel into a target air-fuel ratio at least in a predetermined operational range on the basis of a detected value of the air-fuel ratio sensor. Even in a range where the air-fuel ratio is made richer than the theoretical air-fuel ratio, the target air-fuel ratio is set to be richer, and the air-fuel ratio feedback control may still be executed.
