Abstract: A hydraulic shock absorber for vehicles including inner and outer cylinders, and a casing defining an oil chamber therein. The oil chamber is arranged to be in communication with the interior of the inner cylinder. A gas chamber hermetically defined by an elastic metal membrane and having a predetermined volume of gases confined therein is disposed in the oil chamber. The arrangement provides desirable damping characteristics in a substantially low damping force range as well as in an inherent or preset damping force range.

Abstract: A vibration isolator supports a vibrating body vibrating in a wide frequency range while isolating produced vibrations in the entire frequency range. The vibration isolator includes a first attachment member adapted to be connected to the vibrating body, a second attachment member adapted to be connected to the structural body, and an elastically deformable resilient member fixed to and interconnecting the first and second attachment members, the resilient member being elastically deformable in response to relative movement of the first attachment member with respect to the second attachment member. The vibration isolator has a first chamber defined at least partly by the resilient member and having a volume variable dependent on elastic deformation of the resilient member, and a second chamber communicating with the first chamber through a communication structure and having a volume variable dependent on variation of the volume of the first chamber, the first and second chambers being filled with a liquid. The communication structure includes a passage having an internal volume large enough to allow substantial resonance of a flow of the liquid in the passage to be induced by vibrations of the vibrating body based on both the mass of the liquid flowing in the passage and the difference between pressures in the first and second chambers.

Abstract: A hydraulic shock absorber including inner and outer tubes telescopically fitted together and an orifice variable in response to relative movement of the inner and outer tubes. A large diameter tubular holder is disposed coaxially around an upper portion of the outer tube to provide a space between the outer tube and the holder, the space being divided by a tubular partition membrane disposed coaxially in the space into a high-pressure gas chamber located outside of the membrane and a low-pressure gas chamber located inside of the membrane and communicating with an upper space within the outer tube. The shock absorber is of the hydraulically and pneumatically operated type, is simple in structure, and can be assembled with ease while maintaining a desired degree of performance. When the shock absorber is at the end of the extension stroke, there is a sufficient length of span between an outer tube sliding portion and an inner tube sliding portion between which the variable orifice is located so that even when the shock absorber is subjected to lateral bending forces, the orifice clearance is prevented from being varied or deformed, to ensure reliable and smooth operation of the shock absorber.

Abstract: An engine starter in which a driven gear driven by the rotor of a starter motor and an output shaft driving a pinion meshing with the driven gear of an engine are mutually connected through a unidirectional clutch. The gear driven by the rotor and the clutch member driven by the driven gear are rotatably supported by, but separate from, the output shaft. Connection between the driven gear and the clutch member for torque transmission purposes is effected through a torque damper whereby the transmitted torque will be damped and engine noise reduced.

Abstract: A structure including two brackets extending from the engine casing in opposite directions normal to the axis of aligned output shafts of the engine, two pairs of variable-volume supporting units bearing against the top and bottom surfaces of the adjacent one of the two engine brackets, and a control valve arranged normally to interconnect the upper and lower supporting units in one pair with the lower and upper ones in the other pair, respectively. The two pairs of supporting units so interconnected exhibit an overall spring constant the magnitude of which is reduced upon vertical vibration of the engine and raised upon angular displacement thereof about the axis of the aligned output shafts so that such vibration and angular displacement can be effectively suppressed.

Abstract: A spraying apparatus for coating a hot and horizontally travelling glass sheet with a metal oxide coating film such as a heat-reflecting film by spraying an organometallic compound solution downwardly against the glass sheet. The apparatus comprises a spray gun movable over and transversely of the glass sheet, an outer enclosure and an inner hood, which has a middle portion defining therein a spraying zone and two end portions which are adjacent and upstream and downstream of the middle portion, respectively, and so shaped as to provide exhaust passages. The middle portion comprises two vertical guide plates arranged such that an ambient gas admitted through the space between the outer enclosure and the inner hood and an upper opening of the hood flows vertically downward into the spraying zone without unfavorably influencing the downward flow of the sprayed solution. The inlet to the exhaust passage in each end portion of the hood is so arranged as to smoothly exhaust the decomposition gas, residual portion of the sprayed solution and the admitted ambient gas from the spraying zone. In this apparatus, the metal oxide coating film can be formed with improved uniformity of its thickness and enhanced strength of adhesion to the glass sheet.

Abstract: A motorcycle or the like is provided with parallel telescoping tubes forming part of an inclined front fork assembly straddling the front wheel. The wheel is mounted for rotation on said assembly about an axis spaced rearward of the telescoping tubes to reduce friction forces between them. The lower ends of the upper tubes are tapered to promote the formation of oil wedges for maintaining an oil film between the telescoping parts. Also, the fork assembly is mounted on the frame for pivotal movement about an inclined axis diverging with respect to a plane containing the axes of the telescoping tubes.
