摘要:
An apparatus for inducing hypoxia in a subject is provided. The apparatus includes a breathing port, an inspiratory reservoir, means for introducing oxygen into the apparatus, means for controlling the flow rate of entry of oxygen into the apparatus at a rate below the subject's metabolic requirements, an expiratory reservoir having a vent, Sequential Gas Delivery means, and means for removing CO2 from the circuit. The Sequential Gas Delivery means are for directing the gases such that upon expiration, the subject expires into the expiratory reservoir, and, upon inspiration, subject inspires first from the inspiratory reservoir, and, on any breath, once said inspiratory reservoir is depleted, gas for the balance of that inspiration is delivered from the expiratory reservoir

A method to maintain isocapnia for a subject. A fresh gas is provided to the subject when the subject breathes at a rate less than or equal to the fresh gas flowing to the subject. The fresh gas flow equal to a baseline minute ventilation minus a dead space gas ventilation of the subject contains a physiological insignificant amount of CO2. An additional reserve gas is provided to the subject when the subject breathes at a rate more than the fresh gas flowing to the subject. The reserve gas has a partial pressure of carbon dioxide equal to an arterial partial pressure of carbon dioxide of the subject. A breathing circuit is applied to the method to maintain isocapnia for a subject. The breathing circuit has an exit port, a non-rebreathing valve, a source of fresh gas, a fresh gas reservoir and a reserve gas supply.

A portable isocapnia circuit and an isocapnia method. A breathing port of the circuit allows a subject to inhale and exhale. Connected to the breathing port, a bifurcate conduit has a first conduit branch and a second conduit branch. The first conduit branch has an atmospheric air inlet, from which the atmospheric air is provided for inhalation, an inspiratory check valve to allow a one-way flow of the atmospheric air, and an atmospheric air aspirator. The second conduit branch has a one-way expiratory check valve and a expiratory gas reservoir. A one-way check valve is used to interconnect the first and second conduit branch, from which the expiratory gas stored in the expiratory gas reservoir flows to the first conduit branch to mix with the atmospheric air when the minute ventilation exceeds the atmospheric air.

A method of controlling PCO2 in a patient at a predetermined desired level(s) comprising a breathing circuit which is capable of organizing exhaled gas so as to be preferentially inhaled during re-breathing when necessary by providing alveolar gas for re-breathing in preference to dead space gas.

An elongated recess is provided on one side of a valve plate, and a piston is provided on the other side of the valve plate. Discharge holes are provided through the valve plate at the recess, and a pair of discharge reeds are disposed within the recess to close/open the discharge holes. A spring reed presses against the discharge reeds on sides thereof opposite to the discharge holes to close the discharge holes. A stopper is secured to the valve plate and fixes the spring reed into position. The operation of the discharge reed can be tested by the operation of the discharge reed alone, and refrigerant gas remaining in the discharge holes can be reduced, thereby improving compression efficiency. The two discharge holes are each associated with one of the pair of discharge reeds, thereby preventing over-compression loss.

The present invention comprises a suspension spring and snubber arrangement for reducing transmitted noise from a reciprocating compressor at ⅓-octave frequency band of 500 Hz and preventing the occurrence of resonance frequency during the reciprocating compressor operation, the arrangement comprising: the suspension spring having a plurality of coils and two opposing open ends; at least one snubber for maintaining the integrity and shape of the suspension spring and for preventing displacement of the suspension spring from their intended position; wherein at least one open end of the suspension spring is loosely fitted over the at least one snubber; and further wherein an internal diameter of the suspension spring is larger than a outer diameter of the snubber so that a gap is defined between the suspension spring and the snubber for minimizing physical contact between the suspension spring and the snubber.

A hermetic compressor of the present invention is provided with one or more small holes 17 formed in the shell of the suction muffler 16 formed with a low thermal conductivity material such as synthetic resin. The small holes 17 are positioned at nodes 18 in a vibration mode for the resonance frequency of the space formed in the hermetic shell, so that amplification of the resonance sound of the space in the hermetic shell 1 is suppressed. Furthermore, a shortage of the refrigerant is supplemented by the refrigerant gas sucked from the hermetic shell 1 through the small holes 17 when it occurs due to a suction loss caused by the resistance of the flow path for guiding a high density refrigerant gas from the suction tube into the cylinder 8 according to the circulation of the refrigerant.

A particulate blocking oxygen delivery mask includes a face piece constructed at least partially of a filtering material, a securing member such as a strap attached to the face piece, and an gas entry port disposed on the face piece. The gas entry port may include an optional one-way valve. The mask may be coupled to a continuous flow of oxygen or may be used as a partial or non-rebreathing mask. The mask permits the administration of high concentrations of oxygen to the patient while at the same time isolating the patient from any potentially contagious airborne particles in their surroundings. It also isolates any potentially contagious droplets or aerosolized particulate matter exhaled by a patient from entering the environment and potentially infecting others.
