Abstract: A filter media having lignite-derived activated carbon, polyacrylic acid (PAA), a commercially available copper-zinc alloy, and polydiallyldimethylammonium chloride (PolyDADMAC) or Luviquat®, which is Poly[(3-methyl-1-vinylimidazolium chloride)-co-(1-vinylpyrrolidone)], combined and used as suitable replacement for TOG bituminous coal-based activated carbon, silver, and PolyDADMAC. Functional groups in lignite-based activated carbon interact with the polyacrylic acid. Functional groups such as calcium, iron, or aluminum oxide/hydroxide of lignite-based activated carbon interact with PAA, and help hold the PolyDADMAC in place. The additional presence of a copper-zinc alloy enhances the filter anti-microbiological performance.

Abstract: A filtration system interconnection structure having a filter manifold including a sump and a coded polymagnet located on or connected to a portion of the manifold, and a filter cartridge including a filter media, first and second end caps sealed to the filter media, and a paired coded polymagnet magnet located on or connected to the filter cartridge. The polarity profiles of the paired coded polymagnets are aligned such that a magnetic attraction force, magnetic repulsion force, or combination thereof, is generated therebetween when the filter cartridge is inserted within the manifold sump housing and moved to the alignment position, thereby causing the coded polymagnet located on or connected to the manifold to translate with respect to a longitudinal axis of the sump to allowing for direct or indirect actuation of downstream system functionality.

Abstract: A single sheet water filter media for gravity filtration applications that improves flow performance over the product life while maintaining sufficient metal reduction, wherein at least two distinct density gradients of the single sheet form a physical barrier for capturing colloidal and insoluble contaminants, retaining the colloidal and insoluble contaminants until the contaminants become soluble in the fluid, and being removed by the single sheet filter media. The single sheet filter overcomes the difficulties of dual- and multi-layer filters attributable to slower flow rate realized well before the rated lifetime of the product. The two distinct density gradients of the single sheet filter media are created by exerting a force on a liquid slurry, such force resulting in the separation of higher powder loading and fibers that compose the top and bottom density gradients, respectfully.
