Abstract:
A filter for a water cooler includes a housing having a surface and a cavity with cavity ports. The filter end is adapted to be received in the housing. The filter end includes a cylindrical base having a surface and a neck extending from the surface. The neck has filter ports and a side surface. The side surface has oppositely directed axially extending elongated protrusions configured to be received in channels in the housing. The base surface includes a complex set of protrusions which are adapted to be received in a similarly configured set of recesses in the housing surface. The protrusions/recesses may take the form of letters, numbers or symbols. The filter end is be fully seated in the housing in bayonet-type fashion to connect the filter ports and the housing ports o permit water to flow through the filter from the water supply to the water cooler.
Abstract:
A filter system includes a housing and a plurality of filter elements disposed in the housing. The plurality of filter elements includes one or more filter elements of a first filter element type and including one or more filter elements of a second filter element type. The system also includes a receptacle plate in the housing, the receptacle plate has at least two different mating elements for attaching filter elements thereto. The receptacle plate includes one or more first mating elements configured to mate with filter elements of the first type and one or more second mating elements configured to mate with filter elements of the second type.

Abstract:
An interconnection scheme between a filter cartridge and its corresponding manifold whereby a magnetic shear force is introduced to remove a blocking mechanism that would otherwise prohibit attachment. The magnetic shear force may also be employed to activate or deactivate a switch or valve, or engage or disengage an engagement mechanism relative to other components upon interconnection. The magnetic shear force is generated by complementary correlated magnet structures moved into close proximity to one another. The interconnection scheme may be a linear or rotational attachment of the filter cartridge with respect to the manifold. A valve assembly utilizing magnetic shear force may be employed to activate a bypass action between a manifold ingress port and egress port, thereby allowing water to flow when a filter cartridge is removed from the manifold and directing water to the filter cartridge when the valve assembly is activated.
Abstract:
A retrofit no filter no run insert for existing filtration systems manufactured without a no filter no run engine integrity protection feature. The insert is beneficial for a manufacturer that initially does not require the benefit of a no filter no run engine integrity protection feature but later requires such a feature. The insert can be installed into the existing filtration system without any modification to the existing filtration system head. The no filter no run insert prevents the equipment supplied by the filtration system (e.g., an internal combustion engine) from being operated without a filter element. Further, the no filter no run insert prevents the equipment supplied by the filtration system from being operated with an unauthorized or non-genuine replacement filter element. The no filter no run insert safeguards against damage to downstream components of the filtration system and malfunctions of equipment in which the filtration system is used.
Abstract:
A filter cartridge includes a filter medium disposed within a housing. At least one lug is mounted to the housing at a port of the housing. The lug is sized, positioned and/or oriented such that the filter cartridge couples to a manifold in one orientation. As an example, a cross-sectional shape of a first lug mounted to the housing may be different than a cross-sectional shape of a second lug mounted to the housing.
Abstract:
A filter cartridge for operatively engaging a manifold having an ejection cam and an insertion cam. The filter cartridge includes a filter element and inlet/outlet portion in fluid communication with the filter element.
Abstract:
A filter and its holder each have a keyed surface, one being a protruding “key” and one being a recessed “lock,” wherein cooperation of these keyed surfaces is required in order for the filter to be installed in the holder. Modification/adaptation of the keyed surfaces, by changing the location, number and length of the key protrusions and cooperating recesses during manufacture, allows various sets of mating filters and holders to be produced so that only mating/matching filters and holders may be connected together. The keyed protrusions are preferably located on an upper shoulder or on protruding flange(s) of the upper end of the filter. The cooperating recess structure inside the filter holder comprises axial recesses that allow axial insertion of the key protrusions, and hence the filter, into the holder and also a circumferential recesses portion that receives multiple key protrusions to retain the filter in the holder. This way, multiple key protrusions slide into and are retained in a single circumferential recess/slot, rather than each key protrusion being received in its own separate circumferential recess/slot.
Abstract:
A filter cartridge including an improved endplate configured to enable a user to remove the filter cartridge from a shell without the use of external tools. The filter cartridge includes a filter media, a first endplate coupled to a first end of the filter media, and a second endplate coupled to a second end of the filter media. The second endplate includes at least one tab formed therein along an outer peripheral surface thereof. Each tab defines a pocket formed therein, via which the user may grasp the endplate and thereby remove the filter cartridge from the shell by hand.
Abstract:
A water filter assembly having a manifold with a rotatable cylinder in which a filter cartridge is removably received is provided. The filter assembly has a noise generator adjacent to the rotatable cylinder of the manifold. When the filter cartridge with the rotatable cylinder is rotated between an installed position and an uninstalled position, the noise generator creates an audible noise. The noise may indicate, for example, that the filter cartridge may be removed from the manifold.
