The present invention relates to a container preform comprising: a polymer suitable for the production of a stretch blow molded bottle and at least one organic or metallated organic near infrared absorbing compound which absorbs at least twice as much light between about 700 nm and about 1200 nm as between about 400 mn and about 700 nm wherein said near infrared absorbing compound is present in an amount sufficient to improve reheat rate of said preform. Suitable near infrared absorbing compounds include phthalocyanines, 2,3-napthalocyanines, squaraines (squaric acid derivatives), croconic acid derivatives, substituted indanthrones and certain highly substituted anthraquinones. A process for improving the reheat rate of a container preform is also disclosed.

Disclosed are thermally-stable, red, anthraquinone colorants which contain one or more ethylenically-unsaturated, photopolymerizable radicals and which may be copolymerized with ethylenically-unsaturated monomers to produce colored compositions such as colored acrylic polymers, colored polystyrenes, and similar colored polymeric materials derived from other ethylenically-unsaturated monomers. The compounds possess good stability to ultraviolet light, good solubility in vinyl monomers, good color strength and thermal stability. Also disclosed are acrylic polymeric materials, i.e., polymers derived from acrylic acid esters, methacrylic acid esters and/or other copolymerizable vinyl compounds, having copolymerized therein one or more of the colorant compounds of the present invention.

The present invention relates to a polymeric composition suitable for use in films, molded articles and fibers, including microdenier fibers. The polymeric composition comprises a thermoplastic resin in an amount from about 50 weight percent to about 99.9 weight percent of the polymeric composition, and a dye composition in an amount from about 0.1 weight percent to about 50 weight percent of the polymeric composition. The dye composition contains an indanthrone compound as a major component. As used herein, indanthrone compounds are defined as compounds having the general structure represented by Formula I: wherein R is hydrogen or at least one group independently selected from C1-C8 alkyl, C1-C8 alkoxy, halogen, hydroxy, trifluoromethyl, aryloxy, arylthio, arylamino, C1-C8 carbalkoxy, —CO2H, C1-C8 alkanoyloxy, arylazo, —CN, —NO2, —SO2-C1-C8 alkyl, —SO2N(R1)R2, and —CON(R1)R2, wherein R1 and R2 are independently selected from C1-C8 alkyl, C3-C8 cycloalkyl, aryl and hydrogen. The present invention relates to a black polymeric composition suitable for use in films, fibers and molded articles, where a soluble, easily dispersed colorant is desirable. The black polymeric composition provides a high black color quality and is small enough to function as a black colorant in microdenier fibers. The black polymeric composition comprises a thermoplastic resin in an amount between about 50 weight percent and about 99.9 weight percent of the black polymeric composition, and a black dye composition in an amount between about 0.1 weight percent and about 50 weight percent of the black polymeric composition. The black dye composition contains a black indanthrone compound as a major component. The present invention relates to blends of a polyester, polyamide or polyester/amide containing a copolymerizable fluorescence quenching compound and a second polymer. The blends of the present invention display reduced fluorescence. Specifically the blends comprise (a) a polyester/amide comprising: (1) a dicarboxylic acid component which comprises at least 0.1 mol % of a dicarboxylic acid selected from the group consisting of terephthalic acid and/or terephthalate ester; (2) a diol and/or diamine component; (3) 0.1 to 99.9 mol %, based on 100 mol % dicarboxylic acid and 100 mol % diol, of a copolymerizable fluorescence quenching compound; (b) a second polymer selected from the group poly(alkylene terephthalate) homo and copolyesters, poly(alkylene naphthalate) homo and copolyesters, poly(cycloalkylene terephthalate) homo and copolyesters, poly(alkylene 1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylate) homo and copolyesters, and polycarbonate homo and copolymers.

In one embodiment the ophthalmic devices are made from acrylates and the light absorbing compound is an Eastman Yellow 035 MA dye.

This invention pertains to certain novel colorant compounds containing one or more ethylenically-unsaturated, photopolymerizable radicals that may be copolymerized (or cured) with ethylenically-unsaturated monomers to produce colored compositions such as colored acrylic polymers. Suitable compositions having the present colorants copolymerized therein include, e.g., polymers produced from acrylate and methacrylate esters, colored polystyrenes, and similar colored polymeric materials derived from other ethylenically-unsaturated monomers. The present invention also pertains to processes for preparing the photopolymerizable colorant compounds. The ethylenically unsaturated colorant compounds may be suitable for use in coatings that are applied to wood, glass, metal, thermoplastics and the like.
