Abstract: Hybrid image sensors with on-chip image deblur and rolling shutter distortion correction (and associated systems, devices, and methods) are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, an image sensor includes (a) an event driven sensing array including one or more event vision sensor (EVS) pixels, each configured to capture event data corresponding to contrast information of light incident on the EVS pixel; (b) a pixel array including a plurality of CMOS image sensor (CIS) pixels arranged in one or more CIS pixel rows, each CIS pixel configured to capture CIS data corresponding to intensity of light incident on the CIS pixel, and (c) a rolling shutter distortion correction circuit configured to correct the CIS data for rolling shutter distortion using the event data.

Abstract: In some embodiments, an image sensor is provided. A signal processing unit of the image sensor is configured with executable instructions that cause the signal processing unit to perform actions comprising: reading a captured scene from a pixel array; reading a value from a test initiation register; in response to determining that the value indicates a test mode: processing the captured scene to detect a region of interest associated with the value; and providing the region of interest to a first interface for transmission to a host device; and in response to determining that the value does not indicate the test mode: analyzing the captured scene using a computer vision technique to selectively generate a signal based on the analysis of the captured scene; and selectively providing the signal to a second interface for transmission to the host device.

Abstract: Hybrid image sensors with adjustable contrast thresholds (and associated systems, devices, and methods) are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, an imaging system comprises one or more event vision sensor (EVS) pixels, and a plurality of CMOS image sensor (CIS) pixels. Each EVS pixel can be configured to, based on a contrast threshold, capture event data corresponding to contrast information of light incident on the EVS pixel. Each CIS pixel can be configured to capture CIS data corresponding to intensity of light incident on the CIS pixel. The imaging system can further comprise (i) a contrast threshold calibration circuit configured to adjust a value of the contrast threshold over time, and (ii) a deblur circuit configured to generate deblurred image data by deblurring the CIS data captured by the plurality of CIS pixels using at least a portion of the event data captured by the one or more EVS pixels.

Abstract: Methods for operating hybrid image sensors having different CIS-to-EVS resolutions (and associated systems, devices, and methods) are disclosed herein. The imaging system can further include control circuitry configured to adjust the CIS resolution of the CIS data and/or the EVS resolution of the EVS data such that a mismatch between the CIS resolution and the EVS resolution is reduced.

Each EVS pixel can be configured to capture event data corresponding to contrast information of light incident on the EVS pixel. Each CIS pixel can be configured to capture CIS data corresponding to intensity of light incident on the CIS pixel. The imaging system can further comprise a deblur circuit configured to deblur the CIS data captured by the plurality of CIS pixels using a first portion of the event data captured by the one or more EVS pixels, and a system processor configured to interpolate a video frame using the deblurred CIS data and all or a subset of the event data.

Abstract: An imaging system including an image sensor coupled to a controller to image an external scene is described. The controller includes logic storing instructions that when executed causes the imaging system to perform operations including capturing images, including a first image and a second image, of an external scene, and generating reduced representations of the images including a first reduced representation associated with the first image and a second reduced representation associated with the second image. The operations further include comparing the first reduced representation with the second reduced representation to determine a difference between the first image and the second image and identifying an occurrence of an occlusion affecting the image sensor imaging the external scene when the difference is greater than a threshold value.

Abstract: A focus method and an image sensing apparatus are disclosed. The method includes capturing, by a plurality of event sensing pixels, event data of a targeted scene, wherein the event data indicates which pixels of the event sensing pixels have changes in light intensity, accumulating the event data for a predetermined time interval to obtain accumulated event data, determining whether a scene change occurs in the targeted scene according to the accumulated event data, obtaining one or more interest regions in the targeted scene according to the accumulated event data in response to the scene change, and providing at least one of the one or more interest regions for a focus operation. The image sensing apparatus comprises a plurality of image sensing pixels, a plurality of event sensing pixels, and a controller configured to perform said method.
