Abstract: The present invention provides a method of preparing a supported catalyst, preferably a hydrocracking catalyst, the method at least comprising the steps of: a) providing a zeolite Y having a bulk silica to alumina ratio (SAR) of at least 10; b) mixing the zeolite Y provided in step a) with a base, water and a surfactant, thereby obtaining a slurry of the zeolite Y; c) reducing the water content of the slurry obtained in step b) thereby obtaining solids with reduced water content, wherein the reducing of the water content in step c) involves the addition of a binder; d) shaping the solids with reduced water content obtained in step c) thereby obtaining a shaped catalyst carrier; e) calcining the shaped catalyst carrier obtained in step d) at a temperature above 300° C. in the presence of the surfactant of step b), thereby obtaining a calcined catalyst carrier; f) impregnating the catalyst carrier calcined in step e) with a hydrogenation component thereby obtaining a supported catalyst; wherein no heat treatment at a temperature of above 500° C. takes place between the mixing of step b) and the shaping of step d).

Abstract: A process for preparing a hydrocarbon conversion catalyst that comprises a specially made silica-alumina composition and a metal or metal compound selected from Group VIB and Group VIII metals. The silica-alumina composition is made by preparing an aqueous mixture containing aluminum sulfate followed by adding alkali metal aluminate to the mixture to enhance the pH to within specified range and then adding aluminum sulfate to the mixture to lower the pH. Then alkali metal silicate is added followed by several other pH swings to provide a mixture containing silica-alumina. The resulting mixture is treated with an alkaline solution to provide a precipitate solid that is recovered to obtain a silica-alumina composition containing of from 30 to 70% wt silica and of from 70 to 30% wt of alumina.

Abstract: A process of preparing a catalyst composition which process comprises the steps of (a) treating ZSM-5 zeolite with an alkaline solution having a pH of at least (8) followed by ion exchange to obtain a treated zeolite, (b) extruding a mixture of the treated zeolite and binder and contacting the zeolite with a fluorocompound containing solution, (c) increasing the temperature of the extrudates obtained in step (b) to at least 200° C., and (d) combining the extrudates obtained in step (c) with one or more metals selected from the group consisting of Group (10) and (11) of the IUPAC Periodic Table of Elements and a process for the conversion of an aromatic hydrocarbons containing feedstock using a catalyst composition prepared by such process.
