摘要: Ablation instruments and methods are disclosed for ablating diseased tissue such as cardiac tissue. The ablation device can remotely apply ablative energy to biological tissue and comprises a flexible elongate member having a proximal end, a distal end and a longitudinal lumen extending therebetween. An energy emitting element is disposed within the longitudinal lumen of the flexible elongate member. The energy emitting element has a proximal end and a distal end for emitting energy along at least a portion of its length. The device is configured to emit a variable amount of energy along a length of the flexible elongate member. The method includes introducing the flexible elongate member into a predetermined tissue site to ablate a target tissue. The target tissue is ablated, coagulated or photochemically modulated without damaging surrounding tissue.

摘要: A catheter system including a housing and a first drive mechanism supported by the housing configured to impart movement to a first catheter device is provided. The first drive mechanism is moveable between an engaged position in which the first drive mechanism engages the first catheter device and a disengaged position in which the first drive mechanism does not engage the first catheter device. The catheter system includes a second drive mechanism supported by the housing configured to impart movement to a second catheter device. The second drive mechanism is moveable between an engaged position in which the second drive mechanism engages the second catheter device and a disengaged position in which the second drive mechanism does not engage the second catheter device. The catheter system includes a manual control configured to allow a user to manually move the first drive mechanism and the second drive mechanism between the engaged and disengaged positions. The first drive mechanism and the second drive mechanism are also configured to be moved between the engaged and disengaged positions by an electronic actuator responsive to a user's activation of a control. The first drive mechanism and the second drive mechanism are configured to be moved between the respective engaged and disengaged positions synchronized with each other.

摘要: A robotic catheter procedure system for performing a procedure on a patient is provided. The robotic catheter procedure system includes a bedside system and a remote workstation. The bedside system includes a percutaneous device and an actuating mechanism configured to engage and to impart movement to the percutaneous device. The remote workstation includes a user interface configured to receive a user input and a display device configured to display an image of a portion of the patient. The image includes a magnification level. The workstation also includes a control system operatively coupled to the user interface. The control system is configured to generate a control signal. The actuating mechanism causes movement of the percutaneous device in response to the control signal, and the control signal is based upon the user input and the magnification level.

摘要: An optical catheter system comprising an intraluminal catheter that provides optical signals to a patient and carries optical signals from the patient, an outer housing, and an inner carriage that moves longitudinally relative to the outer housing and rotates relative to the outer housing during operation when the catheter system is being driven by a pullback and rotation system. The optical catheter system has an interlock system that prevents rotation and longitudinal movement of the inner carriage in the outer housing until attached to the pullback and rotation system. The pullback and rotation system comprises a frame and a catheter system interface, attached to the frame, to which the catheter system is coupled. A carriage drive system is further provided that moves longitudinally and rotates relative to the frame to provide rotation and longitudinal drive to the catheter system. A longitudinal drive system has a drive motor for advancing and/or withdrawing the carriage drive system and a manual drive input enabling a user to manually advance or withdrawal the carriage drive system. A latching system holds the carriage drive system when the catheter system is being attached to the pullback system.

摘要: In vitro delivery of the diphtheria toxin (DT) catalytic (C) domain from the lumen of purified early endosomes to the external milieu requires the addition of both ATP and a cytosolic translocation factor (CTF) complex. The results presented here demonstrate that β-COP plays an essential role in the cytosolic release of the C-domain and is mediated by a consensus peptide sequence found on several bacterial toxins and in HIV-1 reverse transcriptase. The invention features methods for inhibiting cell death that include the administration of compounds based on this consensus sequence that inhibit the translocation of the catalytic domain of toxins or transcription factors. Also featured are methods for identifying compounds that inhibit cell death, and methods for identifying compounds that promote cell death by blocking or accelerating, respectively, the rate of toxin/factor endosomal translocation.

The rotor plates include a main body portion having a plate shape and a first axial face and a second axial face opposite to the first axial face. The rotor plates also include an airfoil base surface at an outer radial edge of the main body portion. The rotor plates further include buckets which extend radially outward from the airfoil base surface. And the rotor plates yet further include a seal disposed to prevent steam exposure to the first and second axial faces.

摘要: A floor cleaning device (10) includes a housing (40) and a container (43) removably received by the housing. A suction nozzle (18, 18′, 18″) is fluidly connected with the container and with a suction source (52) when the container is received by the housing. A filter (114) is selectively fluidly connected with the container and with the suction source. A float (170) selectively closes the fluid connection of the filter with the container. The filter and the float may be removable as a unit (42) from the cleaning device. The nozzle may be removable, allowing an appropriate nozzle to be selected according to the type of floor surface to be cleaned.
