Abstract:
Retrofit connectors that secure together the outside sheathing and underlying structural members of wood-frame or masonry houses, preventing damage when subjected to lateral stresses from a hurricane, or transverse loads from an earthquake. The connectors have special bushings and bearing surfaces that tie the outside sheathing and underlying structural members together, but allow deflection, and transfer of energy to other structural members. Different embodiments of the connectors allow them to adapt to most wood-frame and masonry homes, and to most roof pitches.

A concrete embedding anchor includes. An anchor including an anchor body having a head at one end of the shank and a stopper at the other end, a fitment concentrically mounted to said head and having an external thread and easy breaking portion formed on the round bar portion thereof, and a hemispherical shell-shaped former fitted with the middle portion of said anchor shank. A retainer is secured to the concrete form in advance, said anchor fitment is inserted into and screwed up to said retainer, said anchor is combined with the concrete form, then concrete is poured, and said concrete form is taken away after the concrete has hardened.

A sliding hold-down clip (1) for connecting a roof panel (52) to a purlin (52) in which a support portion (14) extends from a base (12), the support portion defining a slot (20) with fasteners (34) that connect to a roof-engaging plate (36), the fasteners guiding longitudinal movement of the roof-engaging plate (36) along the slot relative to the clip, a distal end of the plate defining a hook (40) for connecting to edges of adjacent roof panels (52), a pair of opposing wings (46, 48) extending laterally from the roof-engaging plate (36) and angled to conform to an anglation of a side portion of the roof panel, whereby fasteners (58) extending though the roof panel and the wings secure the roof panel to the roof-engaging plate. A method of securing roof panels to purlins is disclosed.

Brackets for interconnecting building components. One bracket embodiment is constructed to connect a pair of substantially perpendicular building components so as to allow relative vertical movement between those components and may include a first connector plate and a second connector plate. The first and second connector plates may be integrally connected at a right angle so as to form a right angled juncture. A plurality of stiffener channels may be disposed in the right angle juncture. The bracket may further include a plurality of substantially linear stiffener channels formed in the first connector plate. One or more elongated slots may be provided in the second connector plate. In another embodiment, one or more rows of holes are provided in the connector plate. The elongated slots or rows of holes may be located in one or more recessed stiffener regions. A score line and/or dimples may be provided in the first connector plate for locating fasteners.

A guiding means at a joint between boards, the joint comprising groove and tongue preferably intended to be joined by means of glue. The tongue includes at least one guiding wedge. A fitting clearance between the tongue and the groove includes a first fitting clearance and a second, guiding, fitting clearance. The second, guiding, fitting clearance is obtained through the guiding wedges which are arranged parallel to the extension of the joint. The first fitting clearance comprises the main part of the fit and the second, guiding fitting clearance comprises a smaller part of the fit. The first fitting clearance is in the range 0.1-1 mm, while the second, guiding, fitting clearance is in the range 0.01-0.2 mm. The tongue of the joint is provided with at least one equalizing recess so that at least one equalizing cavity is formed in the joint, which equalizing cavity receives surplus glue used during the joining.

A hurricane and earthquake clip for connecting a roof to a wall on new construction and existing houses. The connector can tie together the outside wall sheathing, top plate, roof rafter or roof truss, and roof sheathing. The metal connector comprises a base member, rafter tabs, spacer webs, sheathing tabs, and gussets. The wide base member holds the wall sheathing securely to the wall and prevents bowing out and lateral movements. The rafter tabs and gussets attach to the roof rafter or roof truss. Parallel bends on the spacer allow the sheathing tab to be attached to different roof slopes. The connector can also be made into left's and right's for attaching onto odd size structural members. The connector helps prevent wind and seismic damage to a house.

An anchoring device for components made of concrete comprises an elongated section which is associable with a concrete component so as to protrude from the component with at least one of its longitudinal sides and with at least one portion of its lateral faces, which extend from the longitudinal side. Engagement regions are provided in this portion of the lateral faces of the section and form a plurality of possible engagement positions, mutually spaced along the longitudinal extension of the section, for a coupling element which is detachably associable with the portion of the section that protrudes from the component. The coupling element has at least one engagement region which forms a plurality of possible engagement positions, mutually spaced parallel to the longitudinal extension of the section, for an element for connecting the coupling element to another component or another element to be rigidly coupled to the component. The extension of the at least one engagement region for the connecting element in a direction which is parallel to the longitudinal extension of the section is at least equal to the maximum distance between two contiguous positions of possible engagement provided for the coupling element along the section.

A unique adhesive composition consisting of two parts, a resin and a curing agent, is disclosed. The composition has good adhesion to chemically inert substrates, both flexible and rigid. It is useful for sealing discontinuity in concrete slabs, tanks, decks, pipe lining or combinations thereof.

A holder for use in building construction for holding anchor bolts, rebar, in-concrete plumbing, and the like, in predetermined positions during the pouring of concrete therearound. The holder is molded in one piece from a suitable plastic and includes an elongated base plate, the base plate having front and rear ends, opposite sides, a top surface, a bottom surface, and a hole extending through the front end of the plate from the top surface to the bottom surface; a sleeve integrally molded to the front end of the base plate in alignment with the hole and having a front, a rear, and opposite sides; and spaced reinforcing members integrally molded to one of the surfaces of the base plate, extending lengthwise thereof generally tangentially of the sleeve and having inside walls providing front ends which terminate in and are integrally molded throughout their heights to opposite sides of the sleeve in peripherally spaced relation therearound. A feature of the invention is the molding of the holder out of colored plastic so that it can be more easily seen after the concrete has been poured, thereby partially covering it. An alternative embodiment provides such a holder that can be spread apart for receiving, and then closing and clamping around, anchor bolts, rebar, in-concrete pipe, and similar construction elements.
