    摘要: A reconfigurable multichannel receiver may selectively operate in increased throughput modes and/or increased range modes. In some embodiments, the receiver may select two or more antennas from a plurality of spatially diverse antennas to receive more than one subchannel of a wideband orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) channel. Maximum-ratio combining may be performed on corresponding symbol-modulated subcarriers from the two or more antennas, and a single OFDM symbol may be generated from contributions from the subchannels received by the two or more antennas. In other embodiments, more than one subchannel of a wideband OFDM channel may be received through a single antenna selected from a plurality of spatially diverse antennas. In other embodiments, a single subchannel may be received by a plurality of spatially diverse antennas and maximum-ratio combining may be performed on corresponding symbol-modulated subcarriers received by the antennas.

    摘要: A multiple-input-multiple output (MIMO) transmitter for transmitting an orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) symbol over a plurality of spatial channels using a plurality of antennas is described. The transmitter includes encoding circuitry to encode blocks of input bits in accordance with a variable encoding rate to generate blocks of encoded bits and a spatial-frequency parser to parse the blocks of encoded bits into spatial-frequency groups. The transmitter also includes subcarrier modulators to modulate each spatial-frequency group of encoded bits on one of the OFDM subcarriers to generate symbol-modulated subcarriers. Spatial-frequency groups having a greater number of encoded bits are modulated at higher-order modulation levels and spatial-frequency groups having a lesser number of encoded bits are modulated at lower-order modulation orders.

    摘要: In an orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) system, a transmitter and/or receiver communicate separate data streams on non-orthogonal spatial channels. Each spatial channel may use the same set of OFDM subcarriers and may take advantage of the multipath characteristics of the spatial channel allowing the communication of additional data without an increase in frequency bandwidth. Space-frequency subcarrier modulation assignments may be dynamically assigned on a per subcarrier basis as well as a per spatial channel basis to help maximize the data-carrying capacity of the channel. In some embodiments, each of the spatial channels may be associated with one of a plurality of spatially diverse antennas. In other embodiments, beamforming may be performed to allow the transmission and/or reception of signals within the spatial channels.

    摘要: A frame format provides for wideband wireless local area network communications and informs narrower-band communication units when the channels are occupied by wider-band communication units. In some embodiments, the frame format includes a channelization field identifying channels that are used for communicating subsequent wideband fields of a packet, and a wideband-header field communicated on the identified channels. The wideband-header field may identify sub-fields that may be present in the wideband-header field, and may identify the presence of a wideband-data field. A long-compatibility field may be present that provides protection at the MAC level. The long-compatibility field may transport MAC frames that may include medium-reservation information compatible with narrower-band communication units.

    摘要: A WCDMA system includes a Base Station (BS) transmitter, or forward transmitter and a pilot channel that transmits control signals between the BS and a Mobile Station (MS) to reconfigure their transmitter/receiver. Reconfiguration is performed according to the prediction of the channel attenuation and the threshold set at the BS or MS based on its channel power probability density function separated into three distinct equal probable regions. In one embodiment, Seamless Rate Change (SRC)/Transmitter Power Control (TPC) logic uses the predicted channel attenuation to signal both the transmitter and the receiver in a channel to reconfigure their transmit power level according to the power density function (pdf) of the channel power and threshold level. A transmission rate is reduced when the power level is below the threshold and increased when the channel power is above threshold. The pilot channel is used to signal the mobile station and the base station.
