Abstract:
Novel carbonyl hydrolase mutants derived from the amino acid sequence of naturally-occurring or recombinant non-human carbonyl hydrolases and DNA sequences encoding the same. The mutant carbonyl hydrolases, in general, are obtained by in vitro modification of a precursor DNA sequence encoding the naturally-occurring or recombinant carbonyl hydrolase to encode the substitution, insertion or deletion of one or more amino acids in the amino acid sequence of a precursor carbonyl hydrolase. Such mutants have one or more properties which are different than the same property of the precursor hydrolase.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for communicating between Customer Premises Equipment, (CPE) alarm sensing devices, and alarm monitoring stations. The sensing devices communicate with an end office switch by transmitting a message, such as a string of Dual-Tone Multi-Frequency, (DTMF) digits to that switch. At the switch, the message is processed and a determination is made which of a plurality of alarm monitoring stations should receive the alarm indication. One or more data packets are sent to the selected alarm monitoring stations with the packets identifying the source of the alarm indication, and the type of alarm indication. Advantageously, the packetized communication between the end office switch and the alarm monitoring system allows a high volume of alarm indications to be sent to an alarm monitoring station, because individual telephone connections are not required for each such alarm message.
Abstract:
Apparatus for monitoring the application of a varying pressure to a limb from a sleeve positioned on the limb in order to augment the flow of venous blood and thus reduce the incidence of embolism and deep venous thrombosis in the limb. The apparatus includes a transducer for producing a sleeve pressure signal that is indicative of pressure applied by the sleeve to the limb. This signal is used for periodically measuring the value of a preselected pressure waveform parameter (such as maximum pressure produced in the sleeve). The microprocessor-controlled apparatus also generates an interval signal that is indicative of a time interval during which the value of the selected waveform parameter remains within a particular range.
Abstract:
A communications system for transmitting and receiving remote control messages in an electronic remote control system. The present communications system uses a remote control message protocol which is particularly suitable for transmitting RF remote control messages with IR remote control messages in a time multiplexed fashion, wherein the RF remote control messages are transmitted during the pause intervals between IR remote control message transmission intervals. The present remote control message protocol includes a start sequence, comprising a MARK pulse and a SPACE of about equal duration, followed by a plurality of data fields. Each data field ends with an End of Field marker and the remote control message ends with an End of Message marker. The plurality of data fields comprises an addressing data field for specifying the destination device, a security code data field for allowing a specific remote control transmitter to control a specific destination device, a status field for specifying various status codes associated with the remote control message, a keycode field for carrying the remote control message payload, and a checksum field for verifying the transmission integrity of the remote control message. A remote control message based on the present message protocol may be expanded to include additional data fields and to expand pre-existing data fields.
Abstract:
An adjustable control pedal for a motor vehicle includes a pivotable upper pedal arm having an arcuate slot formed therein, a link pivotable relative to the upper pedal arm, and a lower pedal arm having an upper end pivotably connected to the link and a lower end carrying a pedal. A drive assembly includes a screw supported by the upper pedal arm, a motor operatively connected to the screw to selectively rotate the screw, and a nut threadably engaging the screw and adapted to move along the screw upon rotation of the screw. The nut is pivotally connected to the link such that the link pivots relative to the upper pedal arm upon movement of the nut along the screw. A pin connected to the lower pedal arm and laterally extends into the slot such that the pin moves along the slot upon pivotal movement of the link. Also disclosed is a control pedal having a drive block or a pair of spaced apart pins located in a single slot of the upper pedal arm.
Abstract:
Limb protection sleeve matches a specific tourniquet cuff for application to limbs having circumferences between minimum and a maximum circumference so that the sleeve, after application to a limb of minimum circumference, stretches elastically and so that the sleeve, after application to a limb of maximum circumference, applies a pressure to the limb that is less than a predetermined maximum pressure.
Abstract:
A program product performs date and time services for a calling program. The program product accepts multiple date and time inputs, multiple date and time input and output formats, and multiple function requests. A windowing function is performed to determine a century value for a date that lacks a century designator. Gregorian, Julian, ADABAS D, ADABAS T, EIBDATE, and other formats are supported. Formats may also be parameterized for individual functions allowing a calling program to select multiple and diverse formats for a sequence of called functions. Version checking and version tracking are also supported to insure the calling program interfaces with a version of the program product having an expected functionality. A method provides the functionality of the program product, receiving calls from a calling program. Another method embodies a calling program performing date and time operations by invoking a date and time services program.

Abstract:
A toner fuser system suitable for producing high quality color transparencies is provided. The fuser system includes a media conditioning assembly located directly downstream of a fuser assembly, which may be a roll fuser or an instant-on belt fuser. The conditioner assembly includes a convective heat source, a heating zone, and a convective circulation path past the heat source and the heating zone to provide convective heat transfer to a transparency in the heating zone. A transparency (or other media) with toner to be fused travels on a media path first through the fuser assembly and then through the heating zone of the conditioner assembly. The fuser assembly causes toner to adhere to the transparency just well enough to allow the transparency to pass into the conditioner. In the conditioner, the toner is reheated, thereby causing the surface of the toner to reflow into a smooth, glossy, and uniform surface that increases light transmission efficiency of color transparencies. Additionally, the system eliminates the need for silicone oil, which is used in some prior art systems to prevent sticking of the transparency to the fuser assembly.
