Abstract:
Disposable pressure sensor methods and systems are disclosed. A substrate can be provided, along with a capacitor and an inductor fixed to the substrate to form a pressure sensor thereof. In a variable L configuration, the inductor can be configured to comprise an inductor surface and a diaphragm, such that when the diaphragm is exposed to a pressure, the diaphragm moves close to the inductor surface, thereby resulting in an increase in the inductance and a decrease in the resonant frequency associated with the capacitor and the inductor and any associated circuitry. In a variable C configuration, the capacitor can be configured to comprise one electrode on the surface and one on the diaphragm, such that when the diaphragm is exposed to a pressure, the diaphragm moves close to the capacitor surface, thereby resulting in an increase in the capacitance and a decrease in the resonant frequency associated with the capacitor and the inductor and any associated circuitry. Such increase and/or decrease data are detectable by external interrogation.
Abstract:
Sensors and transponders combined on a single semiconductor substrate package. The invention includes an RFID tag and a sensor commonly assembled onto a common substrate. The substrates can be provided in the form of a flex circuit or printed circuit board. The flex circuit would be fabricated using standard flex circuit fabrication methods. It is a polymer/metal laminate film structure and incorporates the antenna pattern for the sensor and RFID tag system on the circuit. The flex circuit can also combine antennas for the sensor and the RFID tag onto a single flex circuit substrate, thus eliminating the need for separate antennas.

The present invention provides compositions and methods of using stereospecific benzodiazepine derivatives, their salts and prodrugs for the treatment of anxiolytic or convulsant disorders having the side effects of reduced alcohol craving in human alcoholics and a concomitant reduced sedative, hypnotic, muscle relaxant and ataxic side-effects. The invention further provides pharmaceutical compositions for treatment of anxiolytic and convulsant disorders in subjects in need thereof, comprising a compound, prodrug or a salt having a chemical structure represented by any one of Formula I-XXI and a pharmaceutically-acceptable carrier.

Stable ophthalmic formulations comprising hyaluronic acid (sodium hyaluronate) as the primary active demulcent ingredient, stabilized oxy-chloro complex (available commercially as OcuPure(tm) from Advanced Medical Optics, Purite® from Allergan, and Purogene from Biocide) for preservative efficacy, balanced salts mimicking the tear film, and sodium borate as a buffer are disclosed. In one embodiment, preferred stable formulations may be used in the human eye with or without contact lenses. In another embodiment preferred formulations may also be used as a storage and conditioning solution for contact lenses following disinfection.

Abstract:
Gallium nitride material structures, including devices, and methods associated with the same are provided. In some embodiments, the structures include one or more isolation regions which electrically isolate adjacent devices. One aspect of the invention is the discovery that the isolation regions also can significantly reduce the leakage current of devices (e.g., transistors) made from the structures, particularly devices that also include a passivating layer formed on a surface of the gallium nitride material. Lower leakage currents can result in increased power densities and operating voltages, amongst other advantages.
Abstract:
A method is described for making a reinforcing wire frame for embedding in a moulded polymer support frame over which woven wire cloth is to be stretched and secured to form a sifting screen. The method involves locating lengths of cut wire substantially equally spaced apart in a jig to form a first array. A second array of lengths of cut wire is located over the first array with the lengths of wire in the second array being substantially at right angles to those of the first array. The lengths of wire in the first and second arrays are resistance welded at points of mutual intersection so as to form a first substantially rectilinear matrix. Lengths of cut wire are located in a jig to form a third array, in which the lengths are also substantially equally spaced apart, and a fourth array of lengths of cut wire is arranged over the third array with the lengths of the fourth array substantially at right angles to the lengths of wire of the third array, and the wires of the third and fourth arrays are also resistance welded at points of mutual intersection to form a second substantially rectilinear matrix.
Abstract:
A method of repairing or refurbishing a filter screen is described. The type of screen is defined in the specification. The repair or refurbishment is effected by stripping worn or damaged wirecloth from the surface of the frame and placing fresh cloth over the frame and tensioning it as appropriate. Heat is then applied so as to soften surfaces of the frame over which wirecloth is stretched, so that the latter can penetrate softened plastics material in the surfaces and become embedded therein. The frame and its associated fresh cloth is allowed to cool, after which the applied tensioning is removed. Exposed edges of the wirecloth can be trimmed back to the surrounding flange. Plastics material may be applied to the surface of the frame which is to receive the new wirecloth, before the latter is fitted, to provide additional plastics material for bonding the wirecloth to the frame. Alternatively the stripped frame may be inserted in a mould, and fresh polymer material is injected into the mould so as to reform ridges on the surfaces of the frame similar to those which existed when the frame was first manufactured, before the wirecloth is applied thereto.
Abstract:
The invention provides isolated nucleic acids molecules, designated DHDR nucleic acid molecules, which encode novel DHDR-related dehydrogenase molecules. The invention also provides antisense nucleic acid molecules, recombinant expression vectors containing DHDR nucleic acid molecules, host cells into which the expression vectors have been introduced, and nonhuman transgenic animals in which a DHDR gene has been introduced or disrupted. The invention still further provides isolated DHDR proteins, fusion proteins, antigenic peptides and anti-DHDR antibodies. Diagnostic methods utilizing compositions of the invention are also provided.
Abstract:
Fluorescent Pseudomonas spp. are described which are effective for the control of diseases caused by the soil-borne fungus, Gaeumannomyces graminis (Gg), such as take-all, in small grain crops or turf grass. The subject biocontrol strains have a unique genotype as shown by a characteristic banding pattern, and exhibit root-colonizing ability which is characterized by both higher population density on roots and extended colonizing activity compared to known Gg-suppressive strains. A further property is the ability of a strain to duplicate the level of biocontrol obtained naturally in a take-all decline soil. Methods for isolation and identification of the strains and their use to control diseases caused by Gg are provided. In particular, strains of P. fluorescens NRRL B-21806 and NRRL B-21807.
Abstract:
Transgenic fluorescent Pseudomonas spp. are described which have a biosynthetic locus which encodes for the production of the antibiotic phenazine-1-carboxylic acid stably introduced into the genome, have a locus which encodes for the production of the antibiotic 2,4-diacetylphloroglucinol, and are effective for control of diseases caused by the soil-borne fungus, Rhizoctonia. Strains are also described which control diseases caused by Gaeumannomyces graminis or Pythium, in addition to Rhizoctonia, or have the ability to control all three diseases.
