    Abstract: A system for charging a battery is provided. The system includes a first and a second container, each including receptacles shaped to receive a battery and protrusions each being aligned with a receptacle, wherein a number of receptacles and protrusions in the first container is greater than a number of receptacles and protrusions in the second container. The system also includes a charging device including charging bays each being shaped to receive a protrusion. The charging bays are arranged in rows and columns with a number of columns corresponding to a number of receptacles in the first container and a number of rows corresponding to a number of receptacles in the second container. Each of the charging bays comprises an antenna configured to provide charging power to a battery disposed in a receptacle. The charging device includes a charging controller to provide charging power to the battery via the antenna.

    Abstract: A handheld surgical instrument includes a motor that transmits rotational movement to a drill bit of the handheld surgical instrument. The drill bit extends through a depth measurement module with a depth measurement extension, and a cannula, which extends forward from the drill to measure bore depth. The depth measurement extension is moveably mounted to the drill so as to extend into the rotor bore of the motor. As the drill advances forward, the depth measurement extension remains static. As a result of the advancement of the drill, the rotor extends over the proximal end of the depth measurement extension. A controller is configured to determine a breakthrough time and a breakthrough displacement of the drill bit based on displacement data and derived signals. The controller is further configured to determine a proper length of a screw to be used in a fixation surgical procedure based on the displacement data.

    Abstract: A patient support apparatus supports a patient and includes a litter. A base is disposed below the litter. A lift mechanism is configured to move the litter and the base relative to one another between extended and collapsed positions. The lift mechanism includes first and second frame assemblies each including an outer frame member and an inner frame member arranged to move within the outer frame member. First and second rollers and first and second slide members are disposed between the outer and inner frame members. The first and second rollers are arranged to roll along at least one of the outer and inner frame members with a load exerted on the lift mechanism from the litter. The first and second slide members are arranged to slide along at least one of the outer and inner frame members with a load exerted on the lift mechanism from the base.

    Abstract: A patient transport apparatus for transporting a patient along stairs. The patient transport apparatus includes a support structure including a rear support assembly and a track assembly extending from the support structure. The track assembly includes a rail extending between a first and second rail ends. The track assembly further includes a roller adjacent to the first rail end, a motor supporting a pulley adjacent to the second rail end, and a belt supported in engagement with the roller and the pulley.     Abstract: A patient support apparatus for transporting a patient over a floor surface is described herein. The patient support apparatus includes a drive system with a drive member, a user interface for receiving user commands from a user to operate the drive system, and a control system for operating the drive system. The control system includes a memory device configured to store a plurality of transition profiles and a controller configured to sense a plurality of positions of the drive member relative to the support structure, calculate a distance traveled by the patient support apparatus over the floor surface, compare the plurality of positions of the drive member and the distance traveled by the patient support apparatus with the transition profiles, and determine that the patient support apparatus is traveling on an inclined floor surface.
